We've just had LO weighed and she's lost more, has gone over the 10% limit now, have until Sunday otherwise we'll be going back to hospital. Really don't understand it as she latches on well, feeds for ages and I seem to be producing quite a lot. The midwife said she looks really healthy too.

Know what you mean gertrude, I'm seeing bottles and formula in the near future and quite frankly it hurts after trying so hard.

i'm so sorry ladies you're having issues with bfing, i really need to start pumping as i feel like such a bad mom for not giving her everything she needs. it's so much easier to just mix a bottle of formula. she's only sleeping 3 hours a night even with formula, any ideas on how to get her to sleep longer? we even tried giving her more in her bottle and she was still up every 3-4 hours.

Hey everyone
It is lovely to see an April group (I live with my eyes opened by match sticks at the moment I am so tired!)

I had my gorgeous little man Tristan Chrisopher on 29th March (he was due 1st April) weighing 8lb 13oz

Here is a pic of him with his very proud big sister..

I feel for all you ladies having breastfeeding issues, Tristan fed wonderfully for the first 5 days, then engorgement made his latch slip & I had such cracked, bleeding nipples then I developed mastitis & was confined to my bed for 24 hours with no energy so I expressed & hubby gave him bottles of expressed, then he started feeding on me again but all day, he would fall asleep & I'd move him & he would wake up & want to be latched straight back on! Then the mastitis spread & I had so much trauma to that side nothing would come out & it was so swollen he couldn't latch on.. so I had to feed him from one side only & that side couldn't produce enough on its own to satisfy him, he was still feeding all day & by midnight I had very little to give him so had to give him a formula top up, then hubby went back to work, Tristan was still feeding non stop & I had Amelia to think about as with him on me all the time I couldn't move from the bed/sofa.
So I started expressing & it is working for us, he has formula at night as the trauma to my mastitis side means I express very little now from it.
I really miss breastfeeding but it is certainly a completely different experience when you have two to look after!

Sorry for my long post, I just wanted to share my experiences.

For anyone whos babies are bf but aren't putting on weight try switch feeding, feed on one side until they fall asleep then move them to the other side & do that at least twice during a feed

xXx

dana - as long as your baby is healthy who cares what she's fed? when did you last notice who was fed on what in the street?

loopy - I'm already under the hospital because of pickles weight we're back tomorrow to see if the top ups are helping or not and I'm really anxious about it I so want her to be healthy

Heh toby is such a musicy baby. He was crying his little heart out and as soon as I started watching Jools Holland he's fallen straight to sleep.

If im watching tv, he'll settle to tv theme tunes

Hi Queen!
gertrude- really hope the top offs are helping.
Cottles- Rosie LOVES music too. Especially bass! We keep it low but her car seat is above one of the sides of the seat that the subwoofer is under Gets her calm every time.

Here's a picture I just took of Rosie

decided to use my new pump for the first time and was able to get a little over an ounce in about 15 min. makes me feel good to see her drinking it, makes me feel like a good mom and it didn't even hurt.

added bonus? dh is going to get up with her tonight so i can sleep the whole night.

Well my little man came early. He was due 5/21/11 and was born at 34 wks on 4/10/11 after my waters broke at 32 wks and I spent a week and a half on bedrest at the hospital. He's still in NICU so I only get to see him a few hours a day and I am just aching to bring him home. He's just now regaining his birthweight of 4lb 6 oz ao we are waiting on him to gain enough weight that they will let him come home. We have been having some feeding issues, he is mostly being fed by gavage feeding through a nasogastric tube. He is nursing a bit, but he has to take all his feeds from breast or bottle before he can come home. I envy you moms who have your babies to cuddle all day!
