How long do stitches take to dissolve?

I have asked 3 drs/nurses now and had 3 different time frames, from 2 weeks to 8 weeks.
I am now over 3 weeks post partum and still have stitches from where I tore quite high up inside me.

Can anyone shed any light on this please? X

Mine took 5 weeks and I had to sort of pick them off at the end (sorry if TMI) they were loose and getting annoying and just came apart when I fiddled with them. I wouldn't risk it though I was worried about it for days afterwards because it hurt!

I lost my first stitch about 2 weeks PP and the last (visible) one around 9 weeks PP. To be fair, I had a pretty severe third degree tear and had tons of stitches. If I'd had the guts, I'd have snipped that last one; it hurt!

Mine took about 6 weeks. I had an allergic reaction to the stitches which lead to my incision opening up and becoming infected.
