Passing Clots

Its been 2 weeks now since my c-section and only occasionally have i passed tiny small little clots and mw's used to ask ' did i pass clots, big or small?? ' and it was always ok thats good when i said no or that they were tiny,

but i just went to the toilet and passed a huge big clot, it covered all the paper and fell in the toilet aswell, it was thick and like jelly... is this normal??

I'd of thought any afterbirth would of been removed during the section and if missed would of come out by now...

only worried really because the midwives always wanted to know if it was big or small .... why? does big mean something?

It was gross i feel quite sick now,

I passed large clots like that as well and I had a vaginal birth. Everyone told me that it was normal, but you may want to call your doctor just to ease your mind.

WHEN TO CALL YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT POSTPARTUM BLEEDING
If bleeding continues to be bright red and continues to be a large amount. With each day postpartum the amount of your vaginal discharge should decrease and it should become less bloody.
If after the first few days you are still soaking a sanitary pad with blood every hour for more than four hours at a time, call your doctor.
If after a week or so of gradually lessening bleeding, you notice a sudden rush of blood that is bright red and that soaks more than one sanitary pad.
Passage of golf-ball size clots anytime after the first day. Passing clots the size of a grape is normal for the first few days.
If the lochia has a persistent foul-smelling odor. Normally, it should have no odor or smell like menstrual blood.
You're experiencing increasing faintness, paleness, feel cold and clammy, and your heart is racing.
If the bleeding worries you, don't hesitate to call your doctor.

i passed a big clot about the size of 2 icecubes put together! it was gross!
i rang the central delivery suite and they said as long as it wasnt bigger then my palm then its fine.

I happened to put that particular sanitary towel ina bag in the bin and the midwife requested to see it when she came for her normal visit the next day.
She had a look (yuk!) and said it was fine

i remember it being like a piece of liver!

you can ring the delivery suite at your hospitak up to 28 days after birth so give them a call just to check

It was bigger than 2 ice cubes together, more like 4!

Rang my mums friend whos a mw and hv, she said it should be ok as long as i dont get it again, have lots more bleeding suddenly, bright red and tummy cramps. so im just on the lookout tonight and will see if anything changes. if it happens again ill ring triage tomorrow. i hope its not an infection! hope it was just a bit left behind from the birth canal from pushing which the c-section didnt get to clear up? if that makes sense. :S

I passed 2 golf ball size clots which looked like (TMI!!) pieces of liver! Though my insides were falling out! Midwife said it was completely normal. They dont warn you of that though which I think is bad.

Make sure you mention it to your health visitor or call nhs direct if it keeps happening. But I think a couple of times are ok! xx
