Is this an infection?

I'm still bleeding from giving birth and there's still some red blood there but there's also some pussy coloured stuff too that smells funky ... is this an infection?

I had a tear that went sideways in the shape of a "V" so they didn't stitch it as its already it the healing position.. Dunno if that'll have anything to do with it

It's normal for you to be still bleeding if your LO is only a week old, but the pus looking stuff isn't especially if it smells. I could ring the delivery suite for advice at night for about 10 days after giving birth. I passed some large clots and I rang them for advice at about 10pm one night. It's better than ringing nhs direct I think. Failing that your midwives might be open tomorrow for advice? Do you feel ok?

Bleeding is fine but not sure about the puss.

The blood will turn into smelly puss looking discharge but not until about 3-4 weeks after birth, and not whilst there are fresh blood. I would go and get it checked for a peace of mind.

I didn't have that and was told anything smelly to get checked out. I had red blood, then pink and that was it.

Call the postnatal ward hun and get it checked, it does sound like an infection and its better to be safe than sorry!

I was also told anything smelly to ring in.

you should really get it checkED, why be embarrassed? they are doctors they get paid to treat you and im sure they get even grosser stuff come at them. if left untreated it can get really bad and cause even more problems. please get checked! foul smelling discharge is the first sign of an infection.

Here, I took this from whattoexpect.com

link: http://www.whattoexpect.com/pregnanc...infection.aspx

Should you be concerned? Infections can be dangerous, especially if they go undetected or untreated: Infections in your uterus can lead to blood clots, infections in your kidneys can cause kidney problems, and infections that get into your bloodstream can cause sepsis. Most often, however, infections simply make your postpartum recovery more difficult, and take time and energy away from bonding with your baby. For that reason alone, it's important to get help for any suspected infection as quickly as possible.

Sepsis is basically toxic shock and you can die from this. Please be seen ASAP! I've left a link at the bottom of this post as well about Sepsis. Good Luck.
