Baby has Severe Acid Reflux

Hello everyone!

I am 25 weeks pregnant and due July 18th However, my sister just had a baby two weeks ago and he has had some issues since he was born . . . First his bilirubin was really high and was in the NICU and then he had a breathing problem after he was home and was admitted to the PICU. The doctors are saying the breathing issue was caused from severe acid reflux. He is on meds for that and they told them to make sure he is upright when he goes to bed.

The baby is not sleeping at all and appears to be in a lot of pain. Has anyone else dealt with acid reflux in a newborn? Any suggestions for alleviating his discomfort??

Thanks!!

My LO has reflux but its not severe. We found keeping her upright for 30 mins after a feed helped, swapping bottles to Dr Browns anti colic, not patting when burping, just rubbing when upright over the shoulder, and we also switched to a thicker formula (comfort milk). If she's breast feeding i'm not sure of any tips for that x

Baby probiotic drops! Worked like a charm for us! It takes a couple days to notice a change but it has helped so much!

Is she at all expressing her milk into a bottle? If so, she could use Colief, where the instructions state:

Try expressing a few tablespoons of breast milk into a small sterilised container; add four drops of Colief; give this to your baby on a sterilised, plastic spoon; continue breastfeeding as normal.

We thought our LO had mild colic, but in desperation, asked the chemist yesterday as I thought it might be reflux -- it's working to a point, but baby is getting better ....

best wishes
