I had a home birth with my daughter Niamh and it was the most wonderful experience ever and i would strongly recommend it. You can have gas and air, although the midwife collecting mine got stuck in rush hour traffic!! and pethidine which i had a bit of trouble getting off the GP but never used anyway. You can use tens and also warm water e.g bath/shower.
I would find out as much info as you can and then speak to your midwife, if she can't help you then ask to speak to someone else.
I know in my area homebirths aren't encouraged for 1st time mums but not sure about people with health problems.
