Trying not to gain loads of weight whilst pregnant

Hi everyone

I'm just wondering how everyone is coping with watching what they eat whilst pregnant. I have been doing SW but I just don't feel I can stick to it due to cravings and excessive hunger! I was my last stone away from my target weight when I got pregnant but I gained 3 stone when pg with my ds.

Doesn't help that whenever I discuss eating healthy people say "oh your pregnant don't worry about weight gain" which just encourages me to eat whatever I feel like!

My meals are generally healthy as I cook from scratch and I do make sure I get my calcium and fibre, it's the hunger and cravings in between that I struggle with!

Anyone else find it hard to stick to healthy eating?

TIA

if you are hungry in between meals, i would recommend trying to incorporate more protein in each meal. that will help keep you fuller longer. i am getting to the point where i get full fast (no room in there!) so i pack my lunch for work, but eat it throughout the day. instead of thinking about what you "can't" have, think of trying to add things. add more water. add more veggies. add protein. etc. your body is growing a human! it needs a good balance of carbs, protein and fats...which means chocolate bunnies and other treats are also acceptable. everything in moderation.

I'm still doing SW and although my diet hasn't been the best I've only gained 13.5lbs at 36 weeks. I've been going to sw for 36 weeks haha!

I've tried to eat little and often, always having fruit on hand to snack on and trying to cook from scratch. I've found upping my water intake has been really beneficial.

I did lose 1 stone in beginning, the first 20 or so weeks, and then slowly put it back on plus the 13.5lbs. So in total 1st 13.5lbs which I'd say is very reasonable.

I am in a similar position. My pre-preg weight was 1 st away from my goal, and I know I've already gained way too much, which I'm trying to not worry about. I do really well most of the day but ALWAYS cave for something sweet in the evening!

Thanks ladies

I almost convinced myself to quit SW this week because seeing the scales going up and up has been upsetting me. Logically I know that I should be gaining some weight as I'm pregnant but an irrational part of me is just sad to see myself gain weight and I began to wonder if weighing myself every week was actually a good thing. However I've been so rubbish this week after not going to SW last week that I know I'll gain three times as much if I don't keep going to SW! So I'm going to keep planning my healthy meals and attending SW groups and if I have more syns then I should so be it, but at least if I'm counting my syns I'm less likely to go overboard than if I'm not paying any attention at all!

I'm not weighing myself or looking at the scale during midwife appointments this pregnancy because I have the same tendency to beat myself up, and it's futile. Trying to be as sensible and as active as possible is the best we can do. 9 months on, 9 months off.
