Follow on from Rae's mpost about music/reading

How many weeks pregnant until your baby is able to hear the outside world and benefit from music /reading etc? I /we talk to the baby all the time but i know it is VERY early!!!

Umm they can hear well early on but they will begin to recognize your voice + your partners around week 24.. Your baby can hear YOU way before that but idk about your partner.

My pregnancy book says they can hear from week 12 but doesn't suggest playing music until 19. Presumably at first they can only hear our trapped wind (lol) but by 19 can hear everything going on outside. So I guess anytime from week 12 is worth bothering with.

I've signed up for the weekly emails from various places, and this week they ALL said I should start playing music to the baby as it can start to hear outside noises but thats its been hearing my heartbeat and stomach rumbling for a while
