Down's Screening

Saw this on the news earlier and thought it was really interesting. It was saying that women aren't given enough information about testing for Down's and that there's much more effective ways to test which would mean less miscarriages from having an amnio.

http://www.channel4.com/news/article...ptable/2455752

"Research seen by Channel 4 News raises questions about the risks of Down's Syndrome screening.

The research estimates that for every three Down's births prevented, two healthy foetuses are being miscarried as a result of the invasive testing involved.

The test is designed to help women make an informed choice about their pregnancies, but one leading expert has told us the number of healthy babies lost is "completely unacceptable"."

I declined the triple test.. so didn't have the amnio either. I felt that it would make me worry unnecessarily.. after all it's not 100%! If my baby is downs syndrome then I'll cope with it at the time. The statistics about the test are pretty worrying x

I refused the test. I didnt think there was a point knowing that early and worrying or having someone tell me to abort my child over it. I couldnt do it. Its my baby and it is what it is no matter whats wrong with it. When i declined the test even the midwife did not argue.

I opted out of the tests as well. Whether I know if there's anything wrong now, or when the child is born doesn't make a difference to me. I would never abort my child on the basis of a considered 'imperfection' that hundreds of people live with and manage anyway. I was born with so-called 'imperfections' - I'll love my baby no matter what.

I will ask the MW next week, is it a blood test and a NT scan for the test?
