why do women crave things when pregnant?

i find it strange lol...
like right now i NEED marmite and i hate marmite normally.
like really can't stand it.

but all i can imagine is marmite on buttery toast and my mouth's watering. gunna get OH to bring some home on his way back from work.

is there a scientific reason behind it?!

I'm sure it has to do with hormones. Lol. But that's what everything pregnancy related is blamed on.

Normally I HATE vinegar... but watching Xfactor at the weekend I was sat with my laptop and the Xfactor thread on my lap drinking vinegar from the bottle...

Euuugggghhhh xx

Alot of women crave things when their body is lacking in a mineral or vitamin. IE craving ice cubes is very often due to low iron levels.

Yep that's true. But there's no actual solid evidence for what causes the body to crave whatever thing during pregnancy, most people say hormones but it may be a mixture of that and other things... who knows

Quite agree, all I can go off is my personal experiences and those of people close to me and all my cravings have had a scientific reason behind them whilst pregnant.
I think pregnancy is one of those things that the human race will never fully understand.

Just being geeky- marmite contains tyramine, which is from tyrosine. A deficiency of tyrosine have symptoms such as:
apathy, blood sugar imbalances, depression, edema, fat loss, fatigue, lethargy, loss of pigmentation in hair, mood disorders, skin lesions and weakness.

Have any of that?
