Endometriomas

Hi, while I was having my 14 week scan they found a 7.8 x 7.8 x 4.5 cyst that they thought looked like an endometrioma. They said to reassess it on my 20 week scan to see if it shrinks but does anyone know what will happen if it doesnt shrink?? will they/are they able to remove it whilst pregnant?? also will I have to have a ceserean because of it??

Sorry is this a cyst or endometriosis? With a cyst... it can be caused by pregnancy I got two pregnant with my second but they dieappeared after I gave birth. They just cause a bit of discomfort. If they hang around you can get the taken out laporoscopically after child birth... pretty simple procedure. Endometriosis you can't see on a scan and can only be diagnosed through laproscopic surgery. Good luck and I hope it does go away for you :-S

If they said endometrioma then it's an endometriosis cyst. If it needs removed I woud imagine it woud be done by keyhole surgery. Have you ever been diagnosed with endo? If they don't deal with it in pregnancy I woud be asking for a laparoscopy afterwards, it would be unusual to have such a large endo cyst without other endo.

When the sonographer saw the cyst she asked if id suffered with any discomfort which I had but never got it checked out and just put it down to IBS (symptoms were pains in lower abdomen while doing number 2's! and often when I sat down id have to clench my bum so I didnt get a shooting pain up the rear) These symptoms have disappeared since being pregnant. She said it all ties in and thinks ive probably had endometritis a long while without knowing. The cyst is hanging off my right ovary and she said to her it looked blood filled? Not sure how they can tell whats blood or other fluid?? I have an appointment with gyno a week after my 20 week scan. Can they remove while im pregnant or is that too risky?? thanks for your replys by the way!

the average in the uk is 8 years between first symptoms and diagnosis. That's what it was for me! Also was told I had IBS. Endo does tend to improve when pregnant and bf'ing. The only pain I had was from scar tissue (my insides are a mess!)
The inside of cyst show up differently if it's filled with blood (I've had both types of cyst). I believe they can be safely rmoved whilst pregnant but if it can be avoided they will. The risks will be weighed against the benefit after your next scan.
The good thing is any endo you have has not affected your fertility it apprears!!!
