Putting baby to sleep in bassinet.. Help?

My MIL bought my son a bassinet (I adore it so much! haha) but I noticed it comes with a little pillow and blanket.

I've always heard to have no blankets or pillows in a cot, so I guess the same would apply to a bassinet. So, this may seem like a really stupid question since I probably just answered it for myself.. but is the pillow and blanket really just there to look nice, and I should take em out when I put my son to sleep? It's just the blanket feels so comfy!! Do you think it'd be okay if I just took the pillow out and had him lay on the blanket though? Only because the blanket feels much comfier than just the bassinet mattress to lay on.. or is that dangerous too?

Attached is pictures of the bassinet and its bedding x

Thats gorgeous!

Yes i would take the pillow out, but dont see why you wouldnt be able to lay him ontop of the blanket, as long as you can tuck the blanket firmly on the sides of the foam matress.

As the previous poster said, sounds like they are mainly for decoration as babies aren't meant to have pillows but if the blanket is snug it could be used to lie on for sure :-)

It's a lovely basket.

That's sweet! Personally I'd take it all out so I wouldn't have to worry

Thanks everyone! I think I may just take everything out for night time sleeps to be on the safe side, and maybe let him nap on top of the blanket during when I or someone else can keep an eye on him and see how he goes. (:

Also, yup the bassinet came with a mattress. I've never really seen bassinet mattresses sold seperately tbh lol

We have a similar one, but don't use the pillow or 'blanket'; we do use a separate blanket to swaddle him and then put LO into the basket.

best wishes

I have the same bassinet, so cute I was also confused by this but just figured I wouldn't use either as the matress is nice anyway. The blanket is too small I thought too, as you can't tuck it in and it's a bit stiff :/ I won't be using it

I would remove the pillow and blanket just to be safe, or if baby does use them only use them when you are awake and able to watch baby easily. My baby hated their moses basket, maybe he wants a beautiful one like the one in your pic hehehe :P
