If you have explained to your doc that you are pregnant and he is happy to give you these then you should be fine. Have you looked into how some food groups aggravate IBS? I used to suffer really badly and cutting out wheat made my life so much better. To the point where I would say I dont suffer from it at all. (unless I eat wheaten bread which kills me!!)
I used to take much stronger laxatives before pregnancy which are obviously banned now. I get so upset because I get off the toilet after another failed attempt and I know that the laxatives that would help me to go are in the bathroom cabinet above me - which I'm not allowed to take.
I also suffer from chronic IBS and have suffered really badly with constipation during my pregnancy so far. Went 8 days without going and took about half a bottle of lactulose to get me to go. I usually take Movicol but my GP told me that it is not recommended for use in pregnancy as there has been no research into its safety. I was really annoyed cos obviously now I'm having problems going at all let alone regularly enough to keep me comfortable. Hopefully it will all settle soon.
