Unisom+B6?

Hi Ladies! So I've had horrid 24/7 sickness for the last week and my midwife prescribed Zofran. I was happy because I've read on so many forums how "magical" it is for so many women. Well I've been taking it for 3 days and I'm still throwing up even with 8mg every 6 hours so I guess I'm one of those women it doesn't work for

I got on www.helpher.org and since my vomiting trigger seems primarily to be motion it looks like maybe an antihistamine might give me better relief. The midwife wanted to give me Phenergran, but I'm afraid to go pick it up from the pharmacy. It seems to have the same action as the unisom+b6 combo just not as strong so I guess I'd like to try that first before I knock myself completely out with Phenergran.

Would love to hear from any ladies who've had luck with the unisom+b6 and about Phenergran too. The side effects from the Phen seem scary. Anyone else the Zofran didn't work for? What did?

Note: I've already tried Sea Bands, ginger, ginger ale, crackers, tums, not letting my stomach get too empty or too full, increasing protein intake, eating before I get out of bed in the morning, etc. No magic bullet so far

I have read wonderful things about the B6+ unisom combo and plan to try that eventually to see if it works even more so than the Zofran. I have read that you can only take the Phenergran at night because it is so strong. At this point, try anything. Your baby needs nutrients and it won't be getting any if you keep throwing it up. Good luck!

B6 and unisom didn't do anything for me but I only tried it 2 days, the zofran does help me some days but it doesn't always work either. It usually keeps the nausea at bay but I still throw up some on it. My OB said in my last pregnancy not to worry about it because your baby gets all it needs from you, just stay hydrated. (Yes I understand wanting to feel better, I am still sick all the time but you don't need to worry about your baby not getting enough at this point)

hi-

I have used the unisom+B6 for both of my pregnancies. I can't take zofran, and reglan's side effects scare me.

I only take it at night, because it does make me drowsy. But my MS is mostly in the evening and early morning when I wake up, and the unisom + B6 really helps.

I wouldn't call it a magic bullet, because the queasy feeling is still there, but mostly it comes when I smell something that bothers me.

If it doesn't work, you are only out about $15. It also helps me sleep. I'm uncomfortable already!

Last night i took 50mg of B6 for this first time along with my prenatal and after about an hour of trying to fall asleep i felt like throwing up. My DH gave me 8mg of Zofran and i slept like a baby. I took 50mg of B6 this morning along with 4mg of Zofran and my ginger pill and seaband and i feel wayyyyyyyyyy better today. I even had cereal for bfast and a salad and sandwich for lunch.

Thanks so much for the comments, Ladies. I have been at my wits end with this. The unisom+B6 seemed to be working for me until this past Friday. I had kind of a meltdown on Thursday. I've been cranky for a few days (hormones and constant nausea/vomiting will do that to you), then my boss reprimanded me for clocking in and then having to run to the bathroom to get sick multiple times. Seriously?? This isn't something I can control, lady! She actually suggested that I should come to work 10 minutes early so I can throw up "on my own time".

After that my husband, Godlovehim, who is on the other side of the fence from me politically made some condescending (he claims he was just trying to help) comment on something I put up on facebook. I cannot WAIT until the election is over. We got in a huge fight when I got home which he dragged out for like 2 hours. He learned an important lesson: never argue emotionally charged issues with a pregnant woman in tears.

So emotional stress, crying so much you further dehydrate yourself and having a complete meltdown messed me up for like 4 days after. The vomiting is back in force (I stopped counted after 20 times on Friday) and the meds aren't helping at all anymore. I focused on hydrating yesterday and it seems to have helped although I couldn't eat anything yesterday but cheerioes and premade freezer bean burritos.

I'm 11 weeks tomorrow. Praying this gets better by this time next week! Sorry for the rant. I have been crying a lot this past week. Just so frustrated not being able to go to work, clean my house, cook for my family and tired of spending so much time feeling so awful and on my bathroom floor. Your support means a lot, truly.

Have you asked your doc to prescribe you anything else? I can't imagine vomiting all day there has to be something else that they can give you. I'm nauseous off and on and even that is becoming unbearable so I hope you get better really soon!!

The Zofran is really the "big gun" and I tried that first. She said I could try Reglan, but at this point I'm starting to freak out about what I'm putting in my body When I was pregnant with my son I didn't even drink soda pop or take OTC stuff for headaches. I have the week off for now, so I'm going to give it a week and see if resting and time help at all. Today I only threw up a few times. I just can't move around for very long
