Progesterone pills

hi everyone

i am happy to say that i am 6 weeks pregnant with my first, and found this website to be very calming and helpful.

i am pregnant while on holiday for a couple of months... before i fly back home next 2 weeks, i went to the local doctor to check on my pregnancy.

well, when i went to the doctor she gave me follic acid and Progesterone pill to strengthen my pregnancy and ease the cramps (i have mild/light period like cramps with no bleeding)

well at first i was worried about taking the Progesterone pill, but people around me assured me that the doctor knows what she is doing.... after much stress and research i found out that this pill are for people who are low on Progesterone hormone.

i decided to stop taking these pills after taking 3 pills of the 30 she gave me, because she did not even do a blood test on me to see whether or not i was low on the hormone. she only did a ultrasound.

what i want to ask is that.. is it bad if i stop taking this pill even after taking 3 of it?... i am so worried what harm it can cause to my unborn the pill might have cause if i stopped after taking it?

thanks

you generally only get given this pill after bloods tests to determine if you need them. In the uk it is not usual to give them out here and there. Also there is no proof they work, some think that it will decrease your chance of miscarrying however studies show they only prolong the process of miscarriage of it was to happen to you not prevent it. I am sure if u stop now it would not harm ur baby but i personally would not take them as they have no prooven success.
Good luck and congrats xxx

progesterone saved my pregnancy. it is very, very bad to take them and to just stop. Progesterone is also used to bring on periods, by increasing the progesterone in your system then drastically lowering it when you stop the pills at once, it makes you shed your uterine lining. You should ALWAYS come off of them slowly...I don't know if only taking 3 pills would do anything though. Progesterone can not harm a pregnancy, it can only help. I was taking 200 mg a day, then 100, now I'm taking 100 every other day until 12 weeks. I have PCOS and I got pregnant after a weak ovulation so the corpus luteum (sp) was not making enough progesterone to sustain my pregnancy so the supplements saved my baby.

Oh yea, ur starting to scare me now. The reason why i regret it was that i didnt get my blood test. She just told me to take the pill once a day for 30 days. Each pill contained 5mg. I took 3 in 3 days. That means 15 mg. So what do u think?

I was also on progesterone till week 12 - there are no real side effects. Progesterone can help a pregnancy and the pros far outweight the cons.

There is an ongoing debate about it depending on which country. In the UK the NHS they dont believe in it, mind you in the UK when I had a bleeding incident the NHS told me to go home and wait to miscarry. So I dont have a lot of trust.

I personally would take it again and again, but I do trust my current doctor 100% and have read A LOT on it to decide that this was the best for my pregnancy.

If you want to stop and only took 3 pills, I dont think that would cause a problem with your current pregnancy, the dose you took was minimal.

If you were on it for more than a week, maybe then you may have wanted to stop slowly but I dont think there are any dangers now.

I took progesterone for the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy and my baby and I are very healthy. You really should see your doctor for blood test before you continue taking the pills. I haven't found anywhere that this drug will harm you if not need, but I would make sure you need it. The only thing I have read is progesterone will not harm you or the fetus if taken when not need. You will be fine, since the dosage you have is so low, you shouldn't worry. I hope this helps, but I would check with your doctor. Good luck to you!

A doctor does not need blood work to prescribe progesterone. I have had 4 miscarriages this year. With each miscarriage I saw a different doctor, and they wanted to do blood work before taking any action. In the process of getting blood work, I miscarried- over and over. All these miscarriages were at about 10 weeks and some had a heart beat.

I am 10 weeks prego right now and am seeing an expensive specialist. He didn't ask any questions and put me on progesterone right away. We did the blood work later, but I was on progesterone until the results came back. Well, I now have every expensive metabolic blood test result- and I am normal. None of the blood work indicated that I should have miscarriages. Im sure the progesterone pills are saving this one.

hi! i had my first scan 7w4d from my LMP. i think my bb s 6w at that time. got 161 bpm. i had 2 previous miscarriages. and my dr asked if i had experienced spotting. i had brown spotting twice during my 5w pregnacy. but only when i wiped that i see it. she also saw something in the scan that cause spotting and she prescribed me dydrogesterone (duphaston). 3xa day for 30 days. i never had hcg test. so i dont know the level of my progesterone. she didn't require me to get it. she asked me f i want to have a test, i just answered that if its ok not to have it, i'll just not take a test so i can save money. i trust my doctor. maybe it can help to avoid another mc.
i'll be going back to my dr b4 my pill is finished and want to see a scan to see the development of my bb and to be sure f everything will be alright. at that time i will be 10w+ pregnant.
