I was on Ambien too before I started TTC. My doctor advised me not to take it since it is a class C drug, which means that there is a higher risk for birth defects than a class B or A. I think it could even be a class D but I'm not sure. I was taking Xanax before as well, which is a class D, meaning that is is extremely high for birth defects. I'd get more medical opinions...

there are a few sites that say B and some say C
Im on 10mg and im going to try to cut it in half tonight but im positive I can not sleep without some kind of help, I have had this problem my whole life.
I also was on Ativan Class D and have come off that had a bit of a scare in week 5 i was actually in the hospital because i was so paniced about not being about to take anything bit its been a week and have had nothing ! im proud of me. I was never on it everyday but was on it as needed. And the Dr told me Id still have to take it time to time, as long as itsn ot everyday its ok.
Ill feel better after I go to the High Risk Dr, im sure they know everything.
TY !

Sorry hun, I am not familiar with that drug, but you could always ask your Doctor to write to someone (forgot the name) to confirm if this is OK during pregnancy, that is what my GP did for me! x

hey im in the same position. It seems everyone is against any type of medication. I cant sleep without it though. My family has made me feel guilty about this and so has my boyfriend. I dont know what to do. I am so tired since i havent slept in weeks. I think that I should just do what's best for me because being depressed and sleep deprived resulting in stress can effect the baby even more. I was also on ambien before I became pregnant and now my sleep has gotten even worse than ever.....

irs a matter of your call, I find if you ask even 5 Dr's you get different answers. I have discussed this with my fiance and my Dr and we are finding it best to take the Ambien, im off all my aniexty meds and I have Crohns disease too and am high Risk, I landed in the hospital 2 weeks ago because of all my meds not being there and I think im doing ok for now 2 weeks later with no sleep on-top of it , I dont even wanna think of the breakdown id have, This has been the roughest time of my life. And im going to trust if i also dont take care of me , im going to do this baby no good at all. I also have a friend who is a nurse and she said pregnant woman do take ambien if needed. And my rugular OB has also told me he has given it too. But since then he has moved me to high risk because of my Crohns so im seeing a new Dr on Weds Jan 2 im hoping since thats a high Risk Dr he will have more knowledge of meds and situations like mine too.
You still need to take care of yourself too.
Im also finding not to tell everyone everything, sometimes too many people get in you business.
Hope this helps and you get some rest.

Ambien is a category B Pregnancy risk medication. Category B means the following: "Animal studies haven't shown a risk to the fetus, but controlled studies haven't been conducted in pregnant women; or animal studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus, but adequate studies in pregnant women haven't shown a risk to the fetus." This is from the Nursing 2006 Drug Handbook. I know that a lot of the doctors at my hospital prescribe Ambien to their pregnant patients for insomnia but as always you would want to check with your physician before taking the medication.

ambien during pregnancy

I have four children and was given ambien at the hospital about 2 weeks before I had my second child. When I had her my contractions were never consistent and i was only dailited to a six when I had her. Well 8 years later and my daughter has been diganoised with PDDNOS (under autism, however this has been changed) ADD and ODD. My mother's friend also took ambien that was given to her by the nurse at the hospital (same hosptial and her son is 2 days older than my daughter) and her son also has mental disorders, they both have a lot of the same issues. None of my other children have these types of issues and I do not know anyone else in my family that does, nor does my mother's friend's other child.

I would NOT TAKE IT DO NOT TAKE IT... I want to know if anyone else has a child that has any mental disorders such as PDDNOS, ADD/ADHD, ODD, OCD or anything of the sort. Please let me know because I just realized the link between our two children and would like to know if anyone else has a child with these issues that has taken ambien while pregnant with them.
