bad ms...what can they do about it?

So i have spent the past 6 days in bed as i havent been able to keep any food down.
I just weighed myself and i have lost nearly 7lb in two weeks...although i can keep water down so assume it not hypermesis.

Just wondering if any one in similar situation...have the doctors done anything, is there anything they can do?

Trying to drink shakes to keep some calories going in.

Just because you can keep water down doesn't mean it isn't HG, but my doctor has told me not to go in until my mouth is consistently dry and I can't stop it from being that way. I also have not lost too much weight yet, and that may change. You might want to call your doctor and see what they say. They can put you on meds, but I could never keep mine down. They can also put you in the hospital to re-hydrate you and they gave me nutrition packs through an IV with meds to help ease the nausea. Those were the only kind I could keep in with previous pregnancies.

Good luck!! I hope you get to feeling better soon! I know exactly how you feel right now. I was reduced to tears last night.

I think they can prescribe you tablets, or tell you which over the counter ones or safe. Worth an ask imo.

As long as you have an understanding gp (i don't sadly) it is possible to be prescribed medication, but with that large a weight loss you may need to pay a visit to hospital. I struggle to even keep the anti sickness medication down and in my last successful pregnancy was given buccastem, which is a tiny tablet that you put between the lip and gum which then dissolves over an hour or so. I found what worked best for me was to allow myself that first morning vomit, then put buccastem in place and doze back off for an hour or so. I would then find I could keep a little bit of fluid plus other tablets down. Oh and even though I knew I would chuck it all up again I made sure I would eat something every couple of hours, which is much kinder on the stomach than dry heaving.

I've had HG in all five successful pregnancies now and it's just starting up with this one. it really is a case of taking it one day at a time and eating/drinking what you fancy no matter how "bad" it is for you. In my case I only seem to be able to eat really strongly spiced food atm.

Oh and another idea is to buy a couple of sports bottles and freeze water in them to sip on during the day. For some reason I can tolerate ice water much better than even fridge cold.

definitely keep up with the shakes - they have worked wonders for me, I feel so much better and I have more energy (for the most part - still sloth like at times). But if it keeps up I would go in... hope you feel better soon

My doctor prescribed me with Stemitil which is a tiny tablet you drink with water which is the only thing i didn't throw up. I lost just over a stone in three weeks as couldn't eat anything and could barely get out of bed. The tablets have helped somewhat and now i am only sick a few times a day and usually in the evening. I can eat too which is a huge improvement. Hope you feel better soon. Xx

If you lost more than 5 lbs and you're dehydrated and can't function you have hypermesis. Believe me I've had it 4x. I couldn't even suck on ice but the fact you can hold water down is good because you'll probably stay somewhat hydrated but you probably still need IV. Your doctor can admit you in the ER and you an get IV and anti nausea pills. I've been in bed three weeks now from weakness and my urine is still so dark no matter how much I drink. I may go to the ER even though I'm not vomiting.

Not being funny, but is there any way you can get to a walk in centre or out of hours? It's just the longer you leave it the longer it will take for you to normalise. There was a time during my first pregnancy when I left it a week and ended up severely dehydrated, hallucinating and ended up staying in on a drip for over a week. Now I will make sure I get seen if I a: am sick more than 10x in 24hours or b: unable to keep anything down for 24hours. Generally the sooner you get the drip etc, the shorter the stay in hospital. By following those rules the longest I had to stay in last time was 36hours.

Luckily i didn't go to hospital as i was still able to drink fluids. I didn't realise that if you lose more then 5lbs or are sick 10 times a day then that's HG. I had both these and HG wasn't mentioned although i was given the pills. Still being sick but am far better. I suffered through for 27 wks with my first with nothing. Could it be I have had HG both times? Xx
