One of the problems with hot dogs is the nitrates, which aren't good for pregnant women. But there is still a greater risk of listeria from them. But it's all down to common sense. If it is cooked thoroughly there should be very little risk. And with cold meats - if they are stored safely at the correct temperature they should be fine. If you are eating out, look at the display, check their temperature display and make a judgement on the cleanliness of the place. Be wary of ice cream machines - I got listeria (before I was pg) from a chinese restaurant ice cream machine. Mcdonalds are usually fine as they are very strict.

Also brie and camembert are fine in moderation if you bake them whole so they are bubbling inside. Dip in carrot sticks, apple, pitta - yummy!

xx

Brie is fine in the UK, it's pasteurised. I still eat it. French women don't worry about eating soft cheese during pregnancy, they would think you were very strange for stopping, pasteurised or unpasteurised. The risk is listeria - but have you ever got listeria from eating cheese before? I don't know anyone who has ever contracted listeria - and you're not suddenly more prone to it when you're pregnant, it's just IF you did somehow manage to contract it, the risk to the foetus is a problem. But the risk of contracting listeria is minute, even with unpasteurised, and non-existent with pasteurised cheese.

I thought you were slightly more prone due to lowered immunity?

Also not all Brie is pasteurised in the uk - always check the labels!!

I'm so glad I'm veggie. No worrying about what meat I can eat

I thought you meant any sandwiches like cheese or salad, I was so confused as to why that would be a problem haha.

Oh I am sorry for the confusion! Haha. No I just meant lunch meat! I have been tearing up some veggie subs at subway though! Doesn't taste too bad without the meat! The queso thing is really killer though! I could just drink that stuff! Seriously! I had a meal at a mexican restaurant the other day and it had that white cheese all over it! I didn't know we weren't supposed to eat that too! And boy have I been craving some hotdogs! Not raw though! lol . I did read that you are not supposed to eat queso dip! Urgh! I will have to talk with my Doctor!

I eat sandwiches every day, and refuse to stop! I hear the deli meat thing has been blown way out of proportion. I'm sure you'll be okay.:-)
