My midwife said its purely because pâté is rich in vitamins, yet thousands of people (for example the French) eat pâté everyday when pregnant. I've eaten it twice before I knew I was pregnant and been fine. Maybe just hold off on your pregnancy vitamin for a day?
I can't wait to eat Brie!!!!! Mmmm! Brie and cranberry panini!
Xxx

Well I've eaten it! I'm not particularly strict on food though. The risk come from listeria which can be present but pâté from a supermarket has such a small risk as opposed to home made or deli pâté. Liver pâté is also said to have higher levels of vitamin A which may be harmful, however you would have to be eating a fair amount for it to be doing anything significant. On balance a piece of toast with pâté isn't going to do you much harm. You could always get food poisoning from a restaurant or from meat in your own home. It depends how strict you are with things. On balance a piece of toast with pâté is one thing but eating it every day is another. Ive eaten soft eggs, pinkish steak and ive been fine. ive not had food poisoning before so i figure the chances of me getting it now are pretty slim if you are sensible. If DH isn't rolling around on the floor with listeria poisoning i'd say you'll be fine. Up to you! X

As far as I'm aware the risk is because pâté (liver anyway) has alot of vitamin a which can interfere with the development of the brain.
I am craving it too!!!! I would love some on toast
For me it's not worth the risk, maybe I will have a small amount later in the pregnancy but not at this early stage.
I also don't drink alcohol. Everything else I am eating if I want it.

Hmm... I don't think I'm particularly craving anything that I can't eat right now, but I really do feel like I can't wait to feel "normal". I can't eat the things I used to somehow enjoy, like a turkey sandwich with tomatoes and lettuce... suddenly hate the three.

But what I'm looking forward to the most that I can't do right now is riding my horse. Lots of people continue to ride while pregnant but me, I felt it wasn't worth the risk. I was riding though the day I found out but I rode early morning and did the test in the late morning/early afternoon haven't been on a horse since. But watching lessons makes me feel like I want to ride SO badly!!!
