How many weeks till you can see a heart beat

Does anyone know at how many weeks pregnant is it possable to see your babies heart beat on a scan?
or how soon does its hart start to beat?

The reason i ask i cuz i had a early scan thought i was 8 weeks infact im sure i was but they said no your only 5 weeks but there was a clear fetal pole and heart beat... i have done my calculations again and i just cant be what they said due to when i got my 1st BFP etc etc...

i just wanted to know if 5 weeks was a bit too early to see a clear heart beat...

The fetal heart
The embryonic heart starts beating 22 days after conception, or about five weeks after the last menstrual period, which by convention we call the fifth week of pregnancy. The heart at this stage is too small to hear, even with amplification, but it can sometimes be seen as a flickering in the chest if an ultrasound is done as early as four weeks after conception.

It starts beating at 5w 4-5days... Some people don't see it that early due to bad positioning, inexperience by the person doing the scan, or uterine abnormalities. If you had been 8 weeks along at the scan the baby would already have had the shape of a baby wth arms and legs. My photo to the left was taken at 8w 6d. From what you described you probably were further than 5weeks but only by a few days.
