Bleeding during 1st tri... how common is it really?

I've been bleeding very lightly (haven't even filled a pad) for 5 days. Had a scan and everything looks fine. The bleeding is mostly there when i wipe and can be pink or red. This morning MS has really hit me, which is reassuring.

I know i'm not alone with this and many women will bleed throughout their pregnancy, but i don't personally know anyone who has!

I would be really keen to find out the following:

How many weeks were you when the bleeding started?
How long did you bleed for?
How often?
How much?
Were there any changes in your pregnancy symptoms?

Many thanks and hopefully, this will provide some reassurance to others in the same boat.

I had IB this time around about 4 weeks or so...nothing since. When I was pregnant with my son I bled almost the whole first trimester I had a hematoma under my placenta...so I was high risk...good luck with everything

I had bleeding ona nd off from about week 5 til week 10/11 I think. Was very light and not every day but everything turned out just fine. Most people I know had some bleeding early on in pregnancy even if only for a couple of days.

Hi

How many weeks were you when the bleeding started? 6 weeks
How long did you bleed for? for a couple of days each week until I was 21 weeks
How often? at least once a week
How much? never enough to fill a pad until 17 weeeks when I had a heavy period like bleed
Were there any changes in your pregnancy symptoms? no

They found a blood clot in my cervix following a heavy bleed at 17 weeks which they think caused the spotting basically through the entire 1st half of my pregnancy...It came away by 21 weeks and all the way through it the baby was fine...

It was very scary but I am proof that peristant bleeding doesn't always mean the worst.

I hope its the same for you.

x

Hey!

I had a very light bleed at the start...

I was around 6 weeks when i had bleeding.
It lasted for 1 day then it turned to brownish CM
There wasnt too much not enough to fill a pad.
To be honest it didnt change my preg symptoms - I havent had many symptoms apart from tiredness and increased CM.

I had an early scan at 7 weeks and got to see baba and heartbeat

Hope this helps!

xx

I have bled in all my pregnancies that have gone beyond first tri at around 6 weeks.

With my daughter I bled for a week lightly and it eventually went brown and stopped. With our first son I bled lightly for a few hours then the following week I woke with period pains, went to the loo and had pink cm fall out of me down the toilet, it really freaked me out. This pregnancy I had brown discharge once which then disappeared.

Both my daughter and our first son arrived safely and I hope in a few days this one will too

I hope the bleeding stops for you soon

How many weeks were you when the bleeding started? 7 weeks
How long did you bleed for? a few hours
How often? just that one time
How much? alot...
Were there any changes in your pregnancy symptoms? no

At 7 weeks I was at my g-parents 50th wedding anniversary. All of a sudden I felt like I pretty much started my period and I instantly knew something bad had just happened. My immediate thought was that I was miscarrying. It was quite alot of blood and bright red. I had to drive a little over an hour to my on-post military hospital ER. When I got there, there was more blood. I immediately went to the restroom and out came this HUGE (fist size) blood clot. They sent it to the lab and there was no tissue so it wasn't our baby...thank goodness! My cervix was closed, so that was a good sign! I am now 15 weeks and everything is just fine with the baby! I never want to experience anything so scary ever again! Hope everything is okay with you and baby!

In my first pregnancy I had dark red/ brown bleeding at 20 weeks which was light in flow (a pantyliner was enough to wear) for a few days in a row. It would then stop for a few days then come back for a few days. The cause was an erosion on my cervix and I had bleeding up until around 30 weeks. My son was unaffected and is now 2 years old.

My second pregnancy unfortunately was a different story. At around 5 - 6 weeks I started spotting bright red blood. The bleeding never stopped and was light for the first day but was very heavy by the next day and I passed what looked like a sac. This was a miscarriage. There were no change in pregnancy symptoms as I didn't have any to start with.

This pregnancy I had bright red spotting at 6-7 weeks which I noticed on the toilet paper when I wiped. I assumed I was miscarrying like last time. However next time I went to the toilet I had no bleeding at all. I had a similar bleed two days later then another one at 10 weeks. I've had an early scan and everything is fine. No cause for the bleeding has been found. I've been told it's very common and I may get it all the way through the pregnancy

Both my neighbours also had bleeding in pregnancy. One of them bled very heavily and was passing big clots. When they examined her her cervix was open and she was told she was probably miscarrying. However a scan the next day showed everything was ok and her son is now a year old.

Maisiemoo - I know exactly how you are feeling as I'm in the same boat. The main thing for us is that our scans show everything is ok for the moment. It is worrying as there is no known cause of my bleeding but for now my baby looks strong and healthy and that's all I can hope for. As I'm getting nearer the 12 week mark I am feeling much less nauseous and tired, but I think that is quite normal. I didn't have any pregnancy symptoms at all when pregnant with my son other than tiredness! I have my official 12 week scan on Monday x

Thank you to everyone that has taken the time to write and share your experiences. In some ways it is reassuring, but everyone is also very different - i guess its nice to know that bleeding doesn't necessarily mean its all over. I'm now on day 6 of bleeding and everything seems fine (aside from sanity ) and to be fair, its barely anything at all.

I have my next scan at 8 weeks, which feels like forever away. Good luck with everything and again many thanks XXXX

Thank you for starting this thread. I have posted on here already, but there are so many responses here, it's so reassuring. I went for an early scan on Wed am because I had some brown discharge when I wiped on Mon eve and Tues morning. I totally panicked and went straight to the doctor who sent me to early pregnancy unit for a scan. My LMP dates then showed i should be 6 weeks, but I know I ov'd late (eithr CD17 or 20) as I was temping. They could see the yolk sac but nothing else, and at 5+2 (not 6) I think it was probably just too early. I go back on 11/11 to have another scan. Fingers crossed we'll se a HB then. It is so worrying as I mc in May and thought it was happening again, but the discharge is just brown and only when I 'push' to go to the toilet. When I wee it's nothing. It's completely different to last time. She couldn't see a bleed on the scan and the sac was in the right place, so hopefully it's just a case of harmless spotting.

I know how worrying it is, and you feel like you can't relax and think everything is fine in case it turns out not to be on the next scan. But that kind of stress will just make things worse. Thanks again to all of you who replied with your experiences, I know everyone is different, but it is reassuring to find out, actually, spotting/bleeding in 1st tri is rather common.
