Booking Apt UK

Evening ladies, I hope you're all well today

I have a quick question for the UK contingent. When did you get your booking appointment?

I finally got mine through today and I will be 12+5 when mine comes around, and 13+2 for my scan. Is it normal to have it that late? To be honest I'm a bit cheesed off with this whole process. I moved around the time I got my BFP and so had to register with a new GP, which took TWO WEEKS as they only accept new patients on a Monday at 10am, no exceptions. How useful when you have a 9-5. I then couldn't get an appointment for another two weeks to get everything sent off to the midwives.

Anyway, rant over! Should I push for an earlier booking appointment?

I think it varies area to area. For me, I was meant to see the midwife at 7 weeks, but I saw her at 6 weeks in the end. My scan is next week, and I will be 11+6.

My first babys dating scan was at 14 weeks, so I think depends when they can fit you in.
If your concerned, speak to midwife lovely

Thanks hon :-) it'll be a loooong four weeks until we see baby so was just hoping for the booking apt to be a bit more in the middle to keep me going until then.

Might have to start researching private scans :-)

I have always called the midwives direct and not gone via my gp - i gave approx dates and have my booking appointmnt next week ill be nearly 9 weeks by my calculations but they are getting me in a little earlier because i dont know my lmp date. I havent got a date for my scan but the midwives just book them whilst your there apparently and they can be from a few days to a few weeks depending on when you need one. I think they will do an early ish scan to get babies date/size and then ill have my 12-13 week scan mid april.

It sounds like you have a rubbish doctors surgery. I moved when I got my BFP too and had to register at a new surgery too. I walked in, they gr me to fill in the new patient forms which I did there and then. They they had me booked in with the midwife while I was there for the following week (6w 5d) and scan was booked through her. The appointments should be fine though xx

Hi I'm in the UK too! I had my first gp app at 5/6 weeks but that was just so I could get booked in with midwife! Midwife came to my house for first app on Sunday! And I received my scan in the post last Friday which is for 3 weeks time, I will be 12+1! I had my blood tests done with midwife today too. I think its just a matter of when they can fit u in! And my sister in law had her first scan at 14 weeks! I don't think it will matter xx

I've got mine on Monday and I'll be 10 weeks. Think they're usually between 8-10 weeks but although it's a pain it won't make much difference seeing her a couple of weeks later, guess it was funny timings with moving and having to register etc. I haven't got a date for my scan yet hoping midwife will book me in on Monday for one

I had mine at 8wks because they won't book your scan here until the mw sees you. With my last pg (different area) I also saw the mw at 8wks, but really it should have been at 10wks. There was a mix up on my dates.

To be entirely honest with you it makes no difference as long you get a scan before 14 wks. Though I know its nice to see someone to make you feel pg.

Unlike in the US they don't do any physical examinations. They do take bloods (though the mw couldn't get blood out of my arm so Im having more taken at the scan), your BP, height, weight and fill out a questionnaire on medical and family history. Most do a urine sample too, but mine didnt.

When I had my youngest daughter (she's 13 months) a new hospital had opened a few months before I found out I was pregnant with a maternity unit/birthing centre. Where as before I would have had to go through my GP and they refer me to the hospital, I had to ring the maternity unit myself and make an appointment. I had that appointment when I was about 7/8 weeks and then had my dating scan when I was 10+3. There was no 12 week scan as they don't do the nuchal test.

I have a lot of appointments on in the hospital the next few weeks between myself, partner and one daughter so I'm going to try to get an appointment for booking in on a day when we're already going to be there. I'm 7 weeks today so they'll want to see me soon.
