caffeine... are you avoiding it / having it in moderation?

hey ladies...

for the first couple of weeks that i knew i was pregnant, i had NO caffeine whatsoever, and was convinced that i could do this for 9 months... then i started having the odd cup of tea... then in the last couple of weeks (8-10 weeks pregnant) i've been having the odd cup of coffee and maybe a tea in the same day too...

health canada says that you can have up to 300 mg of caffeine and i looked up that in the uk they suggest limiting it to 200mg

one cup of tea = 60mg caffeine
one cup of coffee = 130 mg of caffeine

so technically if i drink one cup of each a day, i'm still under the more restrictive uk guidelines, but i'm wondering what the rest of you are doing?

at first not having coffee was easy as it turned my stomach!! now i am back to craving it (used to drink 4-5 cups a day of coffee before falling pg).

I'm avoiding all together (except for whatever little bit is in chocolate). I have been drinking Decaf tea and water, juice, caffiene free soda (but only once in a while). With my daughter, I managed to give it up the whole time too, only having ONE soda the entire time.

I'm back to a cup of coffee a day, during the first few weeks I ordered it 1/2 decaf, 1/2 regular, and only had a couple cups a week. Now that I'm feeling better I order a non-fat latte, because it only has one shot of espresso, and has milk (making it healthy ).
I think the major risk with caffeine is that it increases the likelihood of a mc, if you drink too much, so I try to keep well under the limit.

After having two early miscarriages, I am having no caffeine at all. I bought some decaf tea bags but really what's the point?? It sucks. When I am past the danger zone of first tri I will probably chill out about it.

I don't generally drink caffeinated drinks anyway as the caffeine upsets my digestion.

However, since I have been pregnant my digestion has been so incredibly slow that I have started having a glass of cola and the odd caffeinated tea each day to "help things along"

I have tried to cut out caffeine apart from chocolate which I have binged on a few times to put it mildly.

After trying lots of nasty alternatives my decaf choices are:

PG Tips decaffinated tea
Carte Noire decaffinated coffee or Aldi Freeze Dried decaffinated coffee
Sainsbury's decaffinated diet cola
Tetleys decaffinated green tea

Plus I drink lots of peppermint tea and sugar free cordials

after posting this thread i was of course craving a coffee!! so i went to tim hortons and got my double double with half decaf and half regular coffee... it was actually just as good in terms of taste - couldnt' tell the difference... maybe i'll go with that if i'm out ordering a coffee. otherwise i like what zenn_jenn said the best about one cup a day is ok so that's what i'm going with. thanks ladies!!

well, according to the site of coca cola i can still drink my bottle and not go over the 300mg

but i try to minimize drinking it and try to drink 50% that and 50% OJ... but little one
doesn't always agree with the OJ and gives me terrible cramps right after, boo!
