Hyperemesis?

Hi there,

Is anyone suffering from hyperemesis. I am and it's really getting me down. I'd love to have some BnB mummies to chat about it to.

xx

Not yet! But I had awful all day vomiting with my dd, worst of it lasted till 16 weeks but still vomited 1-2 times a day till I had her at 38 weeks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this pregnancy but it wouldn't surprise me if at 6 weeks it hits me.

What treatment are you on? xxx

Not this time so far but I did with my daughter and it was bad. If you want to chat let me know. I went through it not to long ago as my dd is only 10mo old!

I'm pregnant for the third time. It's been far worse this time. I knew I was pregnant because I started vomiting and I've been in hospital for fluid which never happened in either of my other pregnancies.

I'm off work at the moment too which in some respects is great because it allows me to rest and try and feel better but it's isolating and I feel like I'm letting everyone down. I'm so tired though!

I'm currently taking 3 x ondansetron (zofran) and 3 x cyclizine a day which is helping a lot as I can eat and drink some now but it doesn't stop me from feeling sick and doesn't take away the sick feeling when I've eaten anything.

Also, pretty much the only thing I can drink without feeling sick is coke which is so terrible.

It's a bit of a guilt fest over here at the moment!

I am sorry you are going through this. My hg started at 5 weeks. I am now 14 weeks and it seems to be very bad all day sickness now, rather than hg because the Zofran I am taking stops the vomiting. If I don't take Zofran, it will be the hg symptoms all over again. My doctor assures me it is safe for the baby, but I still worry. However, I was hospitalized and there is no way I could have gone without medication.

Liquids are still hard for me to keep down and I worry I'm dehydrated. Early weeks I went to hospital for IV fluids, so please make extra sure you are not dehydrated. Also, get up slowly, as I passed out once due to low blood pressure.

If you are not on meds, I recommend you ask your doctor today for some. There is a class A drug they can give you. (Zofran is class B, but all that has worked for me).

Also, there is a VERY helpful forum on babycenter.com. Look up the group for hypermesis. I learned a ton about meds, etc. on there.

Good luck. This too shall pass!

Sorry- just saw your update above. Great you are on the meds and they help somewhat. Even with the meds I can only drink Coke as well.. Terrible I know.. I haven't drank soda in 20 years!! There is an anti-nausea med I tried first called Emetrol - it has similar ingredients as Coke does. I get the caffeine-free type at least.

Glad you are off work!

I suffered badly with my boys so i doubt this pregnancy will be any different. My eldest i managed with no meds but my 2nd i was on zofran until 22 weeks. My little boy had iugr but when he was born he had horrendous reflux, i would be covered in sick all the time. I had read that there is a link to antisickness meds but not sure how true it is, so this time i'm going to try & not take anything. I have a week to eat what i fancy before it all goes wrong lol x
