What are your doctors saying about Zofran?

Diclegis isn't working for me. My doctor appointment is Wednesday. My last pregnancy she prescribed Zofran, but there's been such conflicting information about it since then! I'm wondering if anyone's doctor has prescribed it for severe cases, or if they are waiting until after the first trimester, or if it's just no longer the go-to?

I've been taking it once in awhile. Doctor told me it was safe. I only take it when I have a really bad day. It makes me really constipated though.

Hi we have a similar story... with my first I was prescribed nothing for severe sickness. With my second I took zofran the whole time! This pregnancy (after multiple losses) my fertility specialist was very much against it so I took diclegis all first trimester. My OB wasn't keen on zofran this time but I did get some after I got much worse at 16 weeks. I still take diclegis every day but zofran only occasionally because I get bad headaches as a side effect. I've taken it maybe 4 times total.

Thanks! I definitely going to talk with my doctor about it and go by what she says, but I feel some days I'm almost dehydrated and I know that's bad for baby. Some stuff I've read says to take it after 10 weeks.

Mine always gave me Zofran previously, and this was the first time she's given me diclegis. I hope it's working for you better than it is for me!

If I take two at night I typically wake up feeling ok. My nausea comes and goes though

Zofran and Diclegis is a super combination! The Diclegis helped me get through the mornings and the Zofran helped during the times when the Diclegis didn't seem to be. Zofran does make you constipated though so I only take it when I really need it. I remember around weeks 6-8 the Diclegis didn't seem to be really helping, but around week 9/10 I finally started to feel better. I know easier said than done but I'd try to give it some time. It took me about a week or two for my body to get adjusted to the Diclegis and for it to start working.

Due to reports deeming Zofran "unsafe" for pregnant women and causing birth defects, many doctors are now reluctant to prescribe it. They are all making the switch to Diclegis. I had to jump through many loops with my doctor to get her to give me a 14 day supply of Zofran for that reason. I hope your doctor is more willing than mine was.

Update: no Zofran until 12 weeks (which hopefully I'll start feeling better at that point!). She gave me a few because we're going on vacation in two weeks (I'll be 10 weeks) and she didn't think having one would hurt anything for our big day of walking around and doing tours. She also gave me Phenergan, but that knocks me out!
