Question for the Glasgow ladies

**Very, very, tentatively stepping in here**

I promised myself I wouldn't worry as much as with #1 if we got pregnant with #2, but here I am at 4 weeks and worrying my wee socks off already!

So Glasgow ladies, does anyone know what you do/who you contact if you are worried there's a problem early on? My GP said that since we've had a previous miscarriage and it's taken us 4 years since then to conceive #2, she would rather I phoned the midwife booking line asap to book in, which I did. I explained to the lady on the phone but she said all they can do is make your booking appointment (I'll be 10wks) and the 12wk scan. I thought I'd just wait til then, but I've got a UTI (doc gave me antibiotics) and I've since read that they can cause miscarriage.

I'm VERY early on (period was only due today, Got my dates mixed up and accidently tested early) and I'm so worried that since the infection and antibiotics are happening so early whilst everything's still attaching etc that it's going to cause a mc. (Anyone with experience of a UTI around the 4wk mark, please let me know how it turned out!). Yes, I know I sound like a crazy person, but I was a huge worrier in my first pregnancy and all the problems we've had conceiving haven't helped the situation! This morning my test is a little lighter than yesterday so I'd ideally like to get bloods done, even if it's just to prepare myself for the worst, but I don't know how I would go about that? And how I do it without them thinking I'm crazy and irrational I also have a history of recurrent UTIs for about 3 years so I'm likely to keep getting them, although the GP has put me on long term antibiotics (which I'm also worried about but I'll save that story for another day )

Any ideas?

Hey - I'm in Edinburgh not Glasgow but I think you need to get in touch with the early pregnancy unit - I don't know where it is but probably in one of th two maternity hospitals - I would phone their switchboard and ask to be put through. The one in Edinburgh has been great at advising and helping me through my numerous miscarriages. Lots of luck

If it's the same as in England then I second the EPU. Or go through your GP and tell them your worries, mine got me a 6 week scan due to prior mc. EPU probably won't see you without a referral, either from GP or a&e. Good luck!

Thanks ladies, EPU had been my first thought as I saw them for some early pregnancy bleeding when I was pregnant with my son. Like you say, I don't know if they'd see me without a referall, can't remember how I ended up getting in contact the last time! Might speak to the GP if I don't manage to relax soon x x

The one in Edinburgh doesn't need a GP referral - I phoned my GP the first time and I couldn't even get past the receptionist! They just told me to phone EPU! It's probably the same in Glsgow. I hope you feel better soon.

Hello, I would say go through your GP. They should be able to refer you on to early pregnancy for a reassurance scan around 7 weeks and they should also be able to do hcg bloods. The central booking place will only book you in for a dating scan unfortunately, but your doctor should be able to refer you to the EPU (mine did last year and also offered HCG blood draws and i'm glasgow area too). Hope this helps. It's so difficult being pregnant after a loss. Just take it a day at a time and keep busy. XXX

Thank you so much ladies!

In a strange turn of events I actually ended up in maternity triage for 5 hours tonight! Had been to my GP today as I felt as if my UTI was getting worse and going into my kidneys. He agreed and did the usual checks and found blood in my urine, high BP, pulse and fever. Told me it seemed like a very significant infection and told me he was sending me to triage to be admitted so I could have IV antibiotics.

After 5 hours there, all their tests were completely normal and showed to trace of infection! Although I'm still having kidney pain and have now developed really sharp pains low down in my abdomen. So they have referred me to EPU anyway in case something else is going on! Very confusing but hopefully I'll end up with some reassurance x
