Gush of blood at 12 weeks... terrified!

Hi everyone.

I'm 21 and 11+5 with my first child. Everything had been fine so far, until yesterday evening when I stood up from the sofa and felt a 'gush' of liquid. I initially thought I'd wet myself, but when I went to the toilet to check I saw bright red blood! 😣

I tried calling my midwife but the line was busy. So I then called 111 (non emergency medical helpline here in the UK) and was told I'd get a call back within two hours, but was still waiting after three! I eventually gave up and called the labour ward at my local hospital and have now got a scan booked for tomorrow morning.

Thankfully, aside from the initial 'gush' and a little bit of spotting afterwards, there wasn't much blood and it stopped quite quickly (within 20 minutes). I'm still nauseous and my boobs are still sore.

Now, the next morning, I'm getting some brownish spotting when I wipe after going to the toilet, but aside from that the bleeding has completely stopped. I'm not in any pain and haven't been since the bleeding started.

I'm terrified that I've lost the baby and am just waiting for the cramps to start... 😭 I've been crying on and off since last night. Has anyone else had a 'gush' of blood and everything been fine?

Thanks x

That sounds terrifying - so sorry you’re having to go through this! Some women have cysts that can burst while pregnant and cause a gush of bleeding, and after I had spotting in the first trimester I read a ton of stories of people who had lots of bleeding and ended up being fine. If it’s stopped now I’d try not to worry and hopefully everything goes well at your scan tomorrow. Big hugs!

There’s sometimes a little
Blood clot next to baby that’s usually detected on scans it may have been that coming out?

My 12 week scan with DD showed I had bleeding. I didn't have external bleeding but because the blood was trapped and eventually reabsorbed but I have read posts from other ladies who had a gush of blood with a positive outcome. I can't imagine how hard it is waiting for your scan. Hugs

I had this happen to me when I was 10 weeks along in my last pregnancy. I was out of town with family, went to the restroom to pee and just felt really wet. When I wiped there was so much red blood. I came out of the restroom crying thinking I was losing the baby. I rushed to the ER and was given a sono. I saw a perfectly healthy baby on the screen with a beating heart. I was diagnosed with having a sub-chorionic hematoma which is just some extra blood that needs to be expelled from between the uterus and placenta.

I know it's scary but try to remain optimistic.

Thank you everyone.

Unfortunately a scan today showed that baby stopped developing several weeks ago.

I'm booked in to have an ERPC tomorrow morning. I'm just numb and exhausted and want this all to be over.
