Is 8 weeks too late to see a doctor or midwife for the first time?

Iv just rung my doctors to make an appointment with a doctor to tell him Im pregnant. And the lady on the phone said I can go straight to the midwife, and gave me an appointment on the 8th june.
I'll be 8 weeks by then and Im just a bit concerned that that is too far away. With my first two babies (5 and 2 yrs) I have always had to see a Dr first, then he refers me to the midwife later on. Im crap at speaking up for myself, so just agreed to it on the phone!
It just seems a totally different process from my last two pregnancies.

The first time you normally see a midwife is between 8 and 10 weeks so compared to some its quite early

Ok thanks. Its just wierd cos we always had to see a dr first, but I guess they've changed the process or something. Cheers

The Dr just made me an appointment with the midwife and didn't do anything else at all apart from have a bit of a chat about her pregnancies (she's had 6 babies!) so it was a bit of a pointless appointment really.

I didn't see the Midwife till I was 14 weeks! (only because I didn't know I was pregnant until then!)

Just seeing the midwife will be fine - my Dr's appointments have basically been "congratulations, dont forget to book a midwife appointment on your way out"

This time it was the midwife who organised the early scan and appointment with the antenatal clinic not the Dr

Some dont even see you till about 12 weeks. so i dont think its too late hun, think it just depends on your history or the surgery you are with x x
