Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

Hi ladies,

I am besides myself, I just found out at my daughters daycare has hand, foot, and mouth disease is going around!!!

OMG, and today after the movie, my daughter felt warm so I took her temp and then while holding her hand noticed the smallest blister, I then looked at her foot and noticed another one. OMG Then I looked in her mouth and there was another one, my daughter now has Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease which is contagious. I cant believe this

I am besides myself. I cant believe parents would let their kids go to school this way. So now my little one will have to suffer for 1 week or so. I am very upset!!!

Oh hun, this is one of the things that worries me, that son will come home with something going around at school, it does make me very angry when parents fail to check and stop their children passing it on in schools (my mum used to send us to school with all sorts as well which must have caused the odd out break!) I do hope your daughter doesn't have it for long and is ok, and as for yourself....definitely seek advice from your gp or midwife, it's not nice to worry about something that hopefully is safe in pregnancy. Wishing you the best hun x

I had hand foot and mouth disease when I was 18 (how embarrasing) and bc we had 2 teachers at school that were pregnant I couldnt even go write my exams they came to my house and a teacher stayed with me while I wrote it. Apparently its very dangerous for a pregnant woman, I would call my dr hun.

Thank you Ladies,

I did not even think of myself, I called her doctor and asked about her, but I forgot to even ask myself. I better call my gp asap.

I hear it is a very bad disease and that she will be getting painful sores in her mouth. I am not happy right now.

I am also gonna look on the net regarding pregnancy and hand, foot and mouth disease.

Oh and if that was not enough, in the same week they had a child with chicken pox. I am okay with that one and the pregnancy, I have had them twice. My little one will either get them or not because she has the vaccination. If she does get them they wont be too bad because of the vaccination.

Just want to add that the sores in the mouth werent the most painfull it was the ones on the feet and hands, mostly feet tho.

Im doing good first day back at work this afternoon and im nervous bc knock on wood I havent bled in a few days and im a nurse so my entire shift is pretty action packed. Gonna do my best to take it easy tho. How you doing?

Your poor daughter. I had my oldest get it so bad once that she lost 9 lbs due to being unable to eat or swallow. When my youngest got it, the doctor put her on Acyclovir and it really shortened the severity and duration of the illness! Can you ask about acyclovir? It is an antiviral.
I do think it is safe in pregnancy as well, but don't know if you'd need it for prevention or not.

I am so sorry to hear about this It makes me mad as well... this same thing went around my son's school and I also had to beg the question, why are parents sending their sick children to school He has picked up so many bugs at this preschool, but this was the scariest thing. He didn't get it, thank goodness.

Take care and definitely find out if its ok for you to be exposed to this while pregnant.
