X-Ray during first trimester - Please Advice needed

Hi Ladies,

Has anyone ever had an xray during first trimester around 9 and above weeks?

The physician called me 4 weeks after I had gotten my BFP and told me that an xray I had done 7 weeks prior came up with a nodule in my lung, although they presist that it is negative, ie tumor cancer they want another one to compare with the first xray.

Well I spoke to the Pulmonary Physician and to my OB and they both stated it would be safe as long as I kept on a skirt to prevent rays to come into the area where the baby was. They reassured me everything would be okay with the baby and that the benefit out weighed the risk.

To make a long story short, I went to the imaging center today to get the xray, and they pretty much turned me away. The tech stated he did not feel comfortable with giving me an xray so early on and that it would deform the baby. OMG I am getting conflicting stories and am scared off my wits.

Has anyone had an xray and been okay or experienced this?

Please help

I have had a similar experience this week. Needed to go get a broken finger x-rayed. My GP referred me and said it was fine even though I was pregnant....did a bit of googling and it seemed ok. They said for a hand x-ray it was the lowest possible dose for a hand and I could hold it far away from my uterus and wear a lead apron.
Anyway, I got there and the radiologist refused to x-ray me as well! This was after waiting over 3 hours so I was not impressed. He was very nice about it but explained that, unless it was a matter of life/death he would NEVER recommend x-raying a pregnant woman at any stage.
I would worry that a lung x-ray is even closer and an even higher dose so I personally wouldn't do it.
Can't they do another type of scan eg. ultrasound or MRI. I was just googling and there is no radiation involved in MRI and you would think that would give them a really clear picture.
Saying all that, similar to my hand, if they did find something now....what could they do about it while you are pregnant anyway?

Hope some of my ramblings helped in some way.

I agree with 2016, it does sound very risky. There must be another option.

I totally agree with you guys!! You are awesome!! I am going to ask for an MRI or Ultrasound. I was looking on the net right now and it suggested MRI. I will talk with him tomorrow.

I was pretty impressed at how they turned me away and relieved. I also read that between weeks 10-17 you should not have any xrays due to I think it was the central nervous system developing. Sooooo no xrays for me.

Thank you ladies
