It's usually caused by the hormone level fluctuations and is nothing to worry about unless you have an underlying heart disease..I know I get them all the time in the first trimester, then it goes away on its own Hope this helps! Palpitations are sure scary..but most of the time it doesn't mean anything bad!!!
When i was pregnant with my son, through out my 2nd tri i passeed out near enough everyday.Allsorts of tests were done, many trips to hospital after banging my head, arm, bump *eek* ,nose, wrist, knee and every other thing possible....i eventually got refered to the cardiology dep and after more tests, ultrasounds, moniters etc they descovered i suffer from ectopic heartbeats(similar to irregular)
They offered to put my on meds to stop it whilst pregnant but they said there was a poss that it could effect baby!!So instantly a big NO THANKS!!
After that i started trying to control it myself and in my 3rd tri i managed to stop it all together.(the passing out)
and since having my son iv had no problems what so ever.Although i wanted a water birth but was told they would prefer me in the labour ward to keep an eye on me *that sucked* no problems at all during labour.
Now that im pregnant again im just waiting for it to start up again...fingers crossed it doesnt!!
Any worries just speak to your doc, thats what their there for!!
