I will definately have it no question. I agree it is a personal decision but one really needs to look at the risks of declining. One of the pregnant ladies registered at our surgery died last year and it was so tragic. Pregnant women and children are at high risk as these groups are particularly immunocompromised.

However I am a doctor so am also in a high risk environment so have to consider this too. I would still have it even if I wasnt though.

Do what feels comfortable, if you are uncertain or wavering, talk to your GP about your concerns. I guess there is always the risk that they will whip it out and jab you before you have time to think like a previous poster !!

NB : I dont know of any pregnant doctor who has not had the vaccines. So it is not like we are asking ladies to have an injection we would not have ourselves! x

My friend got bullied into having it... the nurse went off on her when she said she wasn't sure she wanted it. The nurse had just come from helping a woman who got the swine flu and lost her baby. My friend felt bad about being bullied at first but was grateful in the end becuase she truly hadn't researched the risks if you get it... once she started hearing those risks she was glad she had the protection and already knew it didn't affect her or her pregnancy in any negative way.

I don't approve of the bullying, but the nurse is only human too and was dealing with something difficult.

Part of my reason for delaying was knowing that I was seeing Dr on Mon I wanted to discuss it with her rather than having it tomorrow. Bit unsure as I have had mild reactions to jab in past and am nervous about side effects now I'm pregnant - but at same time do understand that effects of flu would be worse than the jab.

Certainly do not agree with bullying tactics at all. However I do believe ladies should appreciate the real risks. I had loads of ladies coming to me last winter to discuss it and always gave them the opportunity to go away and think about it before having it done so they were happy with their decision. If someone is prepared to accept the risk, then it is completely up to them.

I would always discuss it with your doctor first if there have been previous reactions or if there are any particular concerns
