Genetic Testing or not?

Hey ladies I was wondering how many of you are going to do genetic testing or not? And how many are thinking about getting an amniocentesis? I'm pregnant with my first child and was just wondering what everybody else is doing. Thanks

That's what my DH and I decided also. Because either way baby healthy or not we won't get an abortion. So I guess there's really no point in us testing.

Hehe, I just asked people for their opinions about it since DH wants me to get the first trimester screening, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with testing beyond that so whats the point?

Hi there! My personal decision is to have the testing done. We did so with my first child also. Our reason is: NOT to abort should anything be wrong, but rather be educated on how to best care for our special needs child, should that be the case. I am a planner by nature and would feel completely out of sorts if I was surprised by a child with special needs while in the delivery room and not have any resources at my fingertips if I should happen to need them. That's the only reason. Good luck to all of you!

Oh- and IF the results for genetic tests were positive, I would NOT get an amnio. That is just too much. An ultrasound and blood work is fine, but once you go sticking needles in my belly you have gone too far! ;-)

Daisy - did you have to pay for the tests yourself or did your insurance cover it?
