Apparently it's an old wives tale about twins causing stronger symptoms at the beginning. I read an article that said there is no way for a woman to tell if she is carrying twins before a scan.

Once most women find out they are having twins all of a sudden the symptoms increase (the power of suggestion is an amazing thing, just think back to ttc and imagining all those extra possible pregnancy signs)

I am hoping for twins and today is the first day I have actually felt sick throughout the day so I am hoping the article I read is correct and I have two sprouts nestled down!

I will read the replies with interest though!

My mother is convinced I'm having twins because I have the worst pregnancy acne ever. I am afraid to smile in case some of them burst (sorry tmi!) and her best friend's daughter had similar signs and she had triplets! I am also very very sick and have zero energy. As this is my first pregnancy I don't know what is normal or not, I just have to wait till next thurs to find out for sure. I think if it is twins the shock'll kill my hubby!

In my book that I'm reading (my pregnancy bible) it states the same as what Feisty Fidget said - that symptoms are heightened. I told my DH not to expect twins 'cos I've got a lack of symptoms.

Lol Mrs Kelly! I think that I am secretly being biased as the only symptoms I have at the moment are being tired but I don't even know if that's pregnancy related as I am a sleepy person anyway.

My cousin who had twins didn't know anything was odd about her pregnancy until a few weeks before her first scan when she was waking up in the middle of the night starving!

I just don't want to feel out of the multiple race because I have hardly any symptoms. It was so bad that 11 days ago I did another HPT as I was so paranoid about lack of symptoms. Grrrrrr!

I have had twins and had no ms and tbh, not much nausea either!!! I dont agree that symptoms are heightened. Maybe with some but definetly not with me. The only thing that was obvious was that i had a definite bump earlier. Nothing else would have told me i was expecting twins. The only other thing was that i remember feeling exhausted..like i couldnt keep my eyes open but whether that is down to the fact it was my first pregnancy or expecting twins i have no idea as i have never felt that kind of tiredness with any of my others. x

The above is me right now.

Always exhausted, bbs soreness off and on. Had no idea it was twins until ultrasound.

EVERYONE and i mean EVERYONE is saying I'm having twins, i have hardly any symptoms, last time I was soooo sick, my boobs dont hurt, my cramps have stopped, I do get tired more but not to the point where my eyes are shutting on their own. But my bump...and i know its a bump, so does everyone else is huge, so much so that my pregnancy cannot be kept secret from anyone anymore, My OH grandmother is a twin, there are 3 lots in his mums side, and his dads cousin is a twin, but there are none in mine. I discussed this with my midwife as i thought twins were only passed down from the maternal side but she said no, it could come from either, guess i'll have to wait my 3 and a half weeks til my scan xx

My sister had twins, she had the worst morning sickness through most of the pregnancy. Me and another sister only suffered nausea. Nobody else had MS in pregnancy in my family at all. Saying that, with my son I had no (or barely any) nausea, and this time I had it since 3weeks and feel pretty rough still. There are more twins in my family (mothers side) and everyone keeps telling me its twins lol EEK! Pregnancy is so different for everyone and every individual pregnancy can be different for one person. Some people with twins don't know until the scan, some have extreme sickness, but single pregnancies can also suffer from Hyperemesis G so who knows whether twins equalls more symptoms! XX
