Hi everyone! I got my today so I obviously have not been to the doctor yet. I was wondering if it is safe to ride roller coasters? I do not want to do ANYTHING that would harm my baby, but since it's so early would it really do damage? I'm going to Universal Studios on Sunday and need to know if I should just avoid the rides...
I would definitely avoid roller coasters because the movement can simulate a fall, which can cause MC. You could always give your Dr a call and ask. They should be able to get you an answer by the end of the day if you call in the morning.
Roller coasters aren't recommended because the placenta can tear away. With that being said.....you are so early that there isn't a placenta yet. Your baby is very well insulated at this point. I went to Six Flags when I was 5+5 and went on 1 roller coaster and all is well almost 2 weeks later. Ultimately it's up to you though. 1st trimester is a time of miscarriages (most of which are due to genetics and not forming properly)....but you don't want to play the "what if" game.....do what you are comfortable with.
The mention of adrenaline reminded me of another good reason not to do it. The adrenaline rush you get triggers the fight or flight response in your body, which sends extra blood to your arms and legs, and takes blood away from your organs, including your uterus. This can hurt the baby.
