How to get early ultrasound?

Hey everyone,

I just found out today that my doctor won't do an ultrasound until I'm 16 weeks. They were going to do it today but then said it was a mix up and they don't do it that early. So I was all excited all week even though I know it's early and there wouldn't be much to see. So now 16 weeks just seems sooooo far away. I'll be 16 weeks Jan 5th. I wouldn't want to pay for my own now since it's so early, but maybe at like 9-10 weeks. Anyone know how to do something like that, I tried to google it but very little information about private scans came back. I am just feeling let down that we didn't do it today, I'd be ok if I only had to wait 3 more weeks, but 9 weeks will be hard

P.S. Also what if the pregnancy was tubal, wouldn't that be dangerous to wait 16 weeks to find out???

If it was tubal ud be in agony and know about it before 16 weeks, so I shouldn't worry about that!

I'm not sure about private scans where u r (America?) but I'd have thought any private hospital would do them. They do here! So maybe google private hospitals rather than scans? =)

Well that's good to know that I'd have a lot of symptoms if it was tubal. I looked up a few private ultrasound places but it seems they all want doctor consent or proof that you've already had an ultrasound. Frustrating since they got my hopes up that I'd have one today

You can try to find a private ultrasound place where you live. Or- and I'm not encouraging you to do this- but if you tell them you've been bleeding they will probably do an ultrasound.

This sounds horrible but if you go to the emergency room and tell them you started having pain on one side or bleeding and cramping they will definetly do a u/s. . .a little fibbing isn't that bad, but I wouldn't want to jinx myself. . . . good luck either way! One positive thing to think about is you are so healthy you don't have to have an early scan, I have to have one every month, but i am petrified of having a still born or misccarriage because I am so high risk. . . would love to be in your shoes anyday! Think positive, it'll all work out!

Don't do that you'll pay a horrible amount of money for the ER! There are private places that do scans, you just have to look around. You are in TX? Try this link to find a place near you http://www.1800sonogram.com/contactsono.aspx

Seven - thanks for the link! I have my first appt next week. Depending on when they scan, might look in to that!

Yeah I would feel too guilty to lie. Plus then it might get too expensive. The private scan places I've found all charge about 120-150. I'm ok with paying that I just hope my doctor will sign off! Basically one that I found has a physician permission form so I'm not required to have already had an u/s. I'm going to bring the form in with me for my 12 week heartbeat check. The doctor might not want to sign but I'm gonna beg, lol. I won't be able to wait a whole month after I hear the heartbeat! lol Plus I want to have pictures to show my family. They're all in New Jersey and can't be a part of this with me living all the way in Texas.
