Blood work?

My MIL is scaring me! She's making me feel as though I NEED to get blood work done in order to confirm my pregnancy and that it is standard. I'm hearing that it is not standard at all and that the urine tests are just as accurate. I did call my OBGYN and they made my appt for December 1st for pregnancy confirmation with an ultrasound, exam, but no blood work.

Should I request the blood work?

I'm just confused!

You can, but I believe a scan is better!

An ultrasound where you hear/see the baby!

I got blood work I just did yesterday and have to do again in 2weeks..that's just to tell me how far the baby is and how well it is growing by hcg level. Every Dc is different tho

I wouldn't bother with blood work, esp if you can have an early scan. You will just stress about hcg levels and if they are higher/lower than everyone elses etc!

You dont need the blood work, a hpt is accurate enough. However most doctors will send you for routine blood work on your first apt.

i had a blood test done to confirm pregnancy at my general practitioner's office. He did not ask if i wanted blood or urine, just did the blood. at my first appt at the ob/gyn i had a urine test done.
