oh dear... you should definitely get that checked out!

A friend of mine had something similar with her first pregnancy... and now again with her second. For her, it turns out that her liver has some sort of reaction to the pregnancy and produces a toxin which causes itching on her entire body (although I think she has a rash). She didn't develop it until her 2nd trimester though, but her doctor has given her medication to help control this.

If there isn't a rash then it's possible that that's why the creams aren't helping, since it's not an external problem. I hope it clears up for you soon though, I can only imagine how frustrating it must be!

Good luck!

emzeebob . . . I'm sooo with you on this one! I also had severe itching, so bad that it woke me up during the night. It was worst on my hands and feet and I scratched myself until it bled.

Luckily I decided to phone my ob/gyn for advice and he prescribed Aterax (in SA, don't know if it goes by the same name elsewhere) which worked really well after about two days. In the beginning I couldn't keep awake though, those little tablets are evil!, but I soon got used to it.

I advise to speak to your caregiver about this, itching is apparently quite common during pregnancy but there are many different reasons why this happens.

Good luck!

I was itchy about that time in my pregnancy - but nothing severe. If it's not severe just apply some lotion before you go to bed - your skin is going through a lot of changes right now, stretching, growing, hormones, etc - just take extra care of yourself.

Some people can develop eczema while pregnant (another friend of mine had it as well!) and it looked like lots of small, little red dots in clusters on her arms/torso... that could be another reason!

Let us know what your doctor says!
