Fresh rainbow trout shouldn't be a problem is small portions. Smoked fish though is not recommended. http://www.babymed.com/faq/content.aspx%3F14656

Darn it, I didn't know you weren't supposed to eat smoked fish, either. I've been assuaging my sushi cravings with smoked salmon rolls, and yesterday I had a bagel with lox. Darn it!

I think it's cos smoked fish is not technically 'cooked' and that's why you're not meant to have it. I found out the other day that you can have ham from a packet but not from the deli counter cos it's been out in the open and there's a higher chance of listeria!

You can have smoked fish but it must be cooked in a dish like a casserole or something. Sorry to deliver the bad news.

If it makes you feel better I'm ignoring the sushi rules and eating california rolls whenever I'm craving sushi. It's cooked but still, oh the fear of cross contamination! Also it gives me an opportunity to drool and salivate over the raw fish sushi.
