Can't see baby in sac at 5 weeks - help!

Hi,

This is the first time i have posted on a forum but i could really do with some friendly support and advice.

I had to go to hospital on boxing day as i was bleeding. I had thought i was about 6 weeks but the doctor seemed to think i was only about 3 weeks. He did however find the sac and yolk sac but was unsure as to whether he saw the heart beat although i thought i did.

I then went for a scan at the early pregnancy assessment unit today and he could only see the sac.

I am really worried and have to go back next week to see if they can see anything or whether i have miscarried.

I would really appreciate any help and support you could offer if you have been through something similar as this is my first pregnancy and i feel a bit clueless!

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Please try not to worry,

I had my first scan initally when I though I was 5+4 and had the same, just a sac and yolk, they said it is completely normal to see only this at this stage.

I then had to go back 12 days later (due to christmas) and then they was able to see the heartbeat but they did say my dates were out and they though I was only 6+5 and that was the 29th.

Did you have an internal scan?

I panicked like you and posted something similar and got loads of responses saying that this early it is so so common!

I will be thinking of you next week, please keep us updated

xxx

I think missmoomoo said it all really. it is so common for a heartbeat to not be detectable at such an early stage. the fact a sac and yolk sac could be seen is encouraging. i will be thinking of you and hoping that during your next appointment a fetal pole will be seen along with that flashing white light. big to u hun xxx

Thank you so much for your responses. It is so scary playing the waiting game as i am in limbo between not wanting to be negative and preparing myself for what ever happens but trying to remain positive.

I am not sure if there was a yolk sac seen this time. The doctor was really cold and didn't take anytime in looking like the doctor i had on boxing day.

It was a vaginal ultrasound scan so i was hoping to see a littler glimmer.

Thank you again for taking the time to get back to me. It really means a lot to hear from other mums to be.

xx
