People's reactions to potential names - small rant

I have quickly learnt not to discuss any potential names OH and I like with anyone! I am totally fed up of people feeling the need to try and influence us and dissuade us from names we like. Reactions so far have included:

"Ooh no I don't like that"
"You can't call him/her that, I knew someone called that and he/she was a right little sod/other expletive"
"Sounds like a 60's sports car"

And these have been from parents and supposed close friends! I am totally sick of it and maybe its just the hormones, but its also a little upsetting.

Funny story, friend of a friend when pregnant told all her friends and family that they were going to name the baby Mango. Turned out to be a load of rubbish but they were fed up of everyone commenting on potential names too! I am thinking of taking a similar approach!

Anyone else feeling slightly disgruntled by other people's unnecessary comments and negative reactions to names you like?

Small rant over.

Now see if I told my mum we liked Rowan for a boy, she would be jumping for joy.

Plenty of time to decide yet I know, but I seem to be struggling more with boys names than I do with girls.

yep, early days but we've still talked about it !

OH's mum is the main culprit (sp) , saying ' no, thats cruel !' or ' that ? a name ? '

Shutup woman, our baby, our choice

Aww

Well to be totally honest, it's down to you and your OH at the end of the day!
As long as you like the name, that's all that matters, just ignore what other people say..
Some people don't know when their opinions are not wanted
xx

Yeah I think babies should come with warnings.

1. Do not discuss my potential name with ANYONE other than your partner.
2. Don't over-eat no matter what the doctor/midwife says.

I know what you mean. Me & hubby like quite ordinary names but everytime we've mentioned them, some people have said things like "oh, that's a really common name" or "such and such's son/daughter's called that, do you not mind that?".

It's our decision at the end of the day, so if people don't have anything positive to say, they shouldn't say anything!

Yeap ive had countless "ooh i dont like that how about Mercedes/Porsha/Chanel" all of the names i REALLY dont want!!

Ive narrowed it down to 2 and im split 70/30 between the two but if anyone asks i justs say "its going to be this or that ... definatley one of the two .. end of" and it shuts them up

Glad I'm not the only one me and OH took ages to decide on names, still a potential four (2xboy, 2xgirl), and my friends and family did exactly the same, I agree, don't mention names to anyone. 'Mango' I like it!!!!
