I get results back on monday from two wab tests I had to have yesterday after both my first and repeated urine samples contained a big number of white blood cells, anyone know much about this? i've heard strep b mentioned but the whole thing confuses me and surely if it was a uti i'd know about it? i don't think it's thrush as i've had thrush 3+ times in the last year and would know about it...
Well my doctor is going to phone me on monday with my results and if they need to do anything further, i've tried reading up on strep b but not really sure what it means i'm having a very slow day mentally lol
if you want hun i can have a look for you and try and explain things? i dont know much about it myself but whenever someone presents a problem like this the geek in me likes to find out about it lol. xx
right hun from what ive found its not so much a UTI more of a suspected water works infection (anywhere from the kidneys down) they are repeating the test just to double check its actually in the urine.
sometimes our lovely pregnancy discharge can contaminate our urine during tests and this contains white blood cells.
they re test to see if the levels go up or down. if it goes down then an infection is ruled out and they suspect contamination. if the levels stay the same or go up then they will treat it as a minor water works infection and prescribe low dose anti biotics. they will then test for group b strep. there is no harm if you have group b strep active in your urine it just means you will have to be treated for it during labour (an anti biotic drip thats all)
so its nothing to sinister hun.
if it were later on in your pregnancy they would test for early pre-eclamsia as white blood cells tend to be present when protein is but 9 times out of 10 it turns out to just be an infection later on in pregnancy when white blood cells are present.
i also found that drinking cranberry juice can help things out with water works infections.
hope that helps and is a bit more understandable then some of the rubbish on google lol xx
I had this a couple of weeks ago. I went to the docs with back ache on the right side and I got sent for scan to check baby was in the right place. I have never had a water infection and so wasnt sure how it would feel but the hospital explained it is likely I have a water infection due to the blood cells. Obviously with the back ache it would explain because as Loolabear has said kidneys etc and my sister who has had quite a lot of kidney infections also agreed that is what the back pain could have been. I was given a weeks course of antibiotics and the pain I was getting has gone. I am just getting my usual back ache now
