Hormone level low- what does this mean?

Ladies, I had my first extensive physical today. My blood and urine results were sent to my doctor and she is explaining to me that my blood hormone levels are extremely low. They are half of what she is expecting to see. She told me that I should not keep my hopes up now and that I may miscarry. Either that or there is no baby, just a yolk...whatever that means?

I am devastated! She ordered another blood test for me tomorrow. On 26th I have an ultra sound....

am I heading to TTC again? Is there a hope for me? I am so sad!

Did they say how low the level was? Seeing a yolk sac is a good sign as your only 6 weeks. Try not to worry - big hugs x

So you only have 1 number set?? The number itself doesn't matter as much as whether it is rising quickly enough. I don't see how they could say anything about it until they have a second set of numbers to compare it to! Check out this site for the crazy variation in hormone numbers http://www.americanpregnancy.org/dur...hcglevels.html

Congrats by the way!! xx

Totally agree with what everyone else said- u cant tell much from one number, its if they are doubling every 48 hrs. I have heard alot of drs worry ladies like this and everything was actually ok. Think positive and we'll all keep everything xd for some great results at ur next test. xx

@Sun and Pcake...now that you are asking me this question, i have no idea what the answer is. I should have asked her this but my mind went completely blank when she said that word miscarriage.

Yes, she has my blood work which I gave on 14th, which was a week ago. So, basically she is looking at 5th week hCG level and not as of today right?
the normal range is below:

# 5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
# 6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml

So, I still stand a chance if she is looking at a week old blood right? Cant wait to go and give my blood work again.

There's no way that 5583 is a low HCG number for 5w pregnant! I think mine was somewhere in the 1000-something at 5w and totally normal. At 7w I had a scan and everything was still good. Regardless of what the number is, they are looking for it to double in 48-72h in early pregnancy. So once you get your next set of blood work, you will know for sure whether things are progressing well. But until then I would just relax and not worry too much. When are you getting your next blood test? Usually they take one then another 2-4 days later to monitor the HCG rise. xx

Thanks Sun. She is taking another one tomorrow. This means 1 week after my first one. I am kind of surprised and shocked that my doc didnt order me for another blood-work within 2 days.
