HCG levels not as high as they're supposed to be =(

So last week I had some spotting. I was told by the GP that this is normal. By Friday morning I found a glob of pinkish mucus on my underwear... this scared me... I went to see my GP again. He did blood work. No pink mucus since then.. just brown spotting when I wipe.

Last night I went in for the results. HCG levels are at 16,000 - I'm 6 and a half weeks. He said he's a little bit concerned because I had a glob of mucus and my hcg levels aren't as high as he expected them to be.

My question is... Does HCG ALWAYS double every 48 hours... because mine has not....

The GP is sending me for an Ultrasound on Thursday...I'm praying to hear a heart beat... I miscarried in May at 5 weeks and I got pregnant again in August... I've been having nightmares that I will miscarry again.

Any ladies have the same thing happen to them?

Thanks

16,000 seems plenty high to me for 6 and a half weeks. It could be possible that you ovulated later than you thought...

I calculated that if your Bhcg started at 50 right at 4 weeks (which is probably even pretty high) then you should be at 25,000 by now. But remember if you are even off one day or two, it can be much lower! 16,000 will be 32,000 if it doubles again... plus I have read that when the hcg levels get higher they double every 72 hrs.

Are they going to check another Bhcg at some point?

Good luck to you girl! I know this period of time is so stressful... think on the bright side. If everything is ok then you will have gotten a very early scan!!

No it does not always double every 48 hours and as your pregnancy progresses the doubling time will slow down. There is a wide range of normal hcg levels in early pregnancy. They should double or come near to doubling, but I would say that at 6 and a half weeks hcg tests are a waste of time. An ultrasound is the only way to find out what is happening. By then you will be 7 weeks and will know one way or another for sure. (assuming you are confident of your dates)
I hope the scan is good news for you.

My doc doesn't look at how high the number is (they can vary a TON) but whether it is doubling every 48-72h. It also takes longer to double the later in pregnancy you are. This is a good reference:http://www.americanpregnancy.org/dur...hcglevels.html

Good luck at the U/S on Thurs! xx
