Prenatal pills.....

I don't Take them at all. I took them with my last pregnancy the first few weeks, but they always made me sick. This time around just thinking about them makes me gag. What about you ladies?

I have taken them since the day I got my positive test. They made me sick if I took them in the morning, so I switched to afternoon and that was better.

If they really make you sick I'd suggest taking just folic acid 1mg (you can buy it by itself). The folic acid is the most important part of the prenatal vitamin for development, and it shouldn't make you sick.

I started gummy prenatal vitamins as swallowing a massive pill makes my nausea worse. The gummy vits don't taste terrible and if I take them at night I don't feel as sick. Maybe give them a try? I also try to remind myself that baby needs me to take the extra vitamins right now and that usually gets me to take it. Good Luck, I know its challenging but totally worth it for baby!

I know how you feel - in my last pregnancy I wasn't hardly able to take them at all - I posted on here and was told not to worry - which is just right. When I went to my scan everything was perfectly formed. I couldn't take them because whenever I took them, at any point in the day - I just boked them up again which means the baby wasn't getting any of the benifits anyway it it wasn't even getting a chance to be in my system. Incase anyone misunderstands what im saying - im not saying to NOT take them I'm just saying if your diet is well balanced there should be no need to worry.

Try just a regular multivitamin and take extra folic acid.

At our prenatal class one of the girls mentioned the gummies don't all have iron in them, so you may need to take an extra iron pill or make sure you eat plenty of iron rich foods. I would check the bottle to be sure.

If you have trouble getting it down, talk to your doctor/midwife about other options. As others have mentioned, your care provider may suggest gummies, or folic acid in a different form, such as a B complex, or it its own.

I cannot keep them down if I take them in the morning. I therefore have my pills next to my bed at night. I put water in my mouth first, then the pill, and quickly swallow while "plugging my nose", and then take several small sips of water before unplugging. That way I don't taste anything. I then lay down and fall asleep before feeling sick on them.

I am not trying to be negative, but be cautious in using your first pregnancy as a sign that it will be ok to skip folic acid in subsequent pregnancies. A lot of women had children without neural tube defects prior folic acid being a required prenatal care element, however, it did happen. Once folic acid became a prenatal staple, the statistics for neural tube defects dropped significantly. This is not to say that if a woman don't take them, her child will likely have neural tube defects. Instead, the reason for taking it is to make the chance of it happening as small as possible.

I hope you are able to find a way to make it work for you.
