Miscarriage without knowing?

Hi, I am really worried about having a miscarriage. I am 5 weeks and 1 day and have my first mw appointment on the 8th dec.

But I am really scared that I have already had a miscarriage. Dont know why. I have pains in my left hand side but nothing too painful, just uncomfortable.

Can it happen that they dont find a HB at the scan and you have no symptoms?

Can I make them give me a scan quicker? Worried that as my mw appointment is close to christmas, that I will have to wait longer for a scan.

Have only known for 2 days that I am pregnant but not really enjoyed it as I am too scared.

Also what happens at a mw appointment. Do they give you the date of your scan whilst you are there?

I know how you're feeling. I have pains in my side, around my 5 weeks they started. I actually had an ovarian cyst I didn't know about.

It should help you to know that miscarriage pains are not just uncomfortable, they are unbareable - like contractions. And you bleed VERY heavily... like a pad an hour for the first hour or so. If you want an earlier scan, I'm sure they can fit you in. However, assuming you are 5 weeks now, it may still be too early to see a HB and if you have early scan, and don't see it, you'll just make yourself scared even more... but that is not a definite indication that you've miscarried. Best thing to do is really relax and let time take it's course. Now if you start bleeding and have very bad cramps (way way worst than period cramps) then go to the emergency room. Otherwise, best to do is relax.

Charliesmom has descibed a mc very well, with me i starte dto bleed heavily and then get the unbearable pains a week or so later. it sounds like your having stretching pains, when i started with these stretching pains about 3weeks ago i panicked it was a mc but mw sent me for a scan just to reassure me. tbh i dont think you would see a hb at your stage yet and a scan might just worry you even more. i hope things go well for you but if your worried then go in to hospital and they should do it quicker than the docs organising it! xx

Congrats on your ! Try not to worry too much - I was told I was mc'ing at around 5 weeks (already had a mmc so was devestated) and sent off for a scan - they didn't find a hb but said that that was perfectly normal and 2 wks later we went back, saw hb and everything has been fine! I didn't have any symptoms at 5wks either so you're not alone... Also, I had my first mw at 12wks and they only just heard the hb very very faintly and very briefly so I guess they might not even try to hear yours yet.

ETS I also had really bad pains in my side very early on - no idea what it was and it went away again by itself!

you can have a mmc but eventually the girls are right u should go on to bleed and believe me theres no mistaking whats happening. Its normal to feel anxious but worrying isnt good for babba. at 5 weeks all u can see is the sac and perhaps a fetal pole so no heart beat - this comes about 6 weeks and most docs wont put u into the epu (early scan) unless u have history of miscarriage or u have had bleeding or bad cramping.
What will be will be, we have no control over these things so please enjoy being pregnant sweets. Hugs xx

Hunny, you need to look all around you and realise that literally thousands of people that all came from babies are born safely everyday, with no problem. Your chances of a healthy snugly tucked up little baby are hugely greater than the chances of a problem.

Goodness, if it were that much of a problem, it would be a very sparsely populated planet, wouldn't it? I think when we come on here, we tend to hear about the problem pregnancies much more so, as the people that have problem pregnancies and losses come here for support and so everything feels much more in our faces and more likely, and the people that have normal healthy pregnancies, don't seem as prominent and are that bit more relaxed, so we don't tend to focus on the happy easy side as much.

You really need to chill out, smile and realise that something wonderful has happened...you made a baby, and you may as well enjoy it, because the chances are you are well and truly stuck with it, and problems are already fairly unlikely, but sadly not anything you can do about them if they happen.

A scan won;t stop a miscarriage, if it was going to happen....at this stage in fact, as has been pointed out, it could make you worry even more, as it can be a struggle to find the right indications as your bean is so very tiny!

Try and relax....you won't be doing baby any harm, but you are missing some of the very best weeks of you life.....carrying your first baby is so amazing....you'll never get it back! I promise....he/she will tearing round the house, trying to borrow a tenner, before you know it!
