You can have prawn cocktail no prob. You cant eat raw prawns (not that you would anyway) but there is no issue with a prawn cocktail. Thats what Im making for Xmas dinner! (and chocolate mousse with raw egg for dessert. Im such a rebel!! Yummmm!!xx)
Really? I can have one? You have made my day lol. Im going to be posh tonight and have a prawn cocktail starter before a main course of chips and egg. Better go to ASDA and get the seafood sauce. I have been pregnant for 4 christmas out of the last 7 and been gutted that i couldn't have a prawn cocktail.

LOL. Yes of course you can. The prawns in a prawn cocktail are already cooked. They used to suggest years ago that they were avoided but nowadays they just say dont eat raw ones or prawns that might not be cooked properly. Enjoy!!! x

Also don't eat cooked prawns that have not been stored properly, but everyone should avoid them.

I think its just because whilst pregnant we are more likely to get ill and soft eggs can have a chance of giving you salmonella, http://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnanc...ty/eggsexpert/ this website even says that salmonella wont directly harm your baby anyway... though I think I might just be trying to justify eating soft eggs and lovely chips xx

Something interesting: I read that eggs are responsible for less than 1% of food born illnesses! Also, salmonella poisoning usually comes from salmonella that is on the outside of the egg, so if you are boiling your eggs, which kills the bacteria on the outside, and you are washing your hands immediately after handling the raw egg, and avoid cross-contamination, then your chances of food poisoning are even lower still. Personally, if I liked runny eggs, I would eat them! But my only use for raw eggs is in eggnog, and sadly, I can't drink that! (because of the alcohol, not the eggs )

Shame about eggnog!

I made a cake a couple of weeks ago and licked the spoon with the mixture on.

Raw egg in it of course! Glad someone else has to haha!

I may have missed if someone else has mentioned it but:
In the UK hens are vaccinated against salmonella. If you get the eggs with the lion stamp on them, salmonella has been virtually eradicated. So I do eat those a bit runny, but not raw. Eggs imported from other countries don't have the lion stamp so I avoid those, raw or cooked.
Salmonella is not the big problem anyway. It would make you feel shit but the baby would likely be ok.
It is listeriosis that causes the problems as it crosses the placenta. This is why you have to avoid the paté and the smelly french cheeses.

Another thought: who would want food poisoning on top of morning sickness? That's probably why medical professionals advice us not to eat things that may cause food poisoning.
