How do you Calculate how far along you are? And HCG levels

How do you guys Calculate how far along you are? From the date of your missed period? From the Date of when you think you ovulated? Also, I have a question about HCG levels. I went into the doctor this morning, as I just found out I'm pregnant. I missed my period on Friday and did a test Sunday afternoon and got a postive. So This morning I wake up to brown blood (TMI, sorry!) And Its finally stopped. It wasn't alot, but enough to worry me. So I Called the Dr and spoke with a nurse and told her that i was concerned. She got me in for a blood test and just called back with the levels of 23 HCG. She told me that it was a good number since i just missed my period. She told me to come back on Wednesday and that the brown blood signified that it was old blood, but if changed to bright red, to call her! So, What do you think of the number? Thats why i'm asking how to calculate how far along I am. I'm worried too...

You can't use hcg to calculate how far you are exactly as the range of what is normal is so very wide and all women have very different amounts at any given point. The most important thing is that your hcg doubles in 2-3 days. If it has gone up to 50 on wednesday, then all is going well so far.

For now, you count how many weeks and days you are from your last period (not your missed one). So if you have missed a period you would be 4 weeks pregnant or thereabouts. Obviously you have not been pregnant all that time, but that is how the dating system works.
This system is most accurate if you have a 28 day cycle and ovulate on day 14. If you have a longer cycle, you can expect to get put back a few days at your first scan.

Thank you Kat! I needed to hear that not everyone is the same or has the same numbers! Thanks for your answer.

I do have a another question...My cycle is actually short, I only have a 24 day cycle, so Am i just really early at that point then?
