Threatened Miscarriage?

I will be 5 weeks pregnant tomorrow. I had my confirmation of pregnancy appointment on Monday, but I started light spotting Monday morning. It got worse when I was actually at the doctor's office, I had some mild cramping and was bleeding a little more heavily. I was especially bleeding during and after the physical exam and internal ultrasound, but I'm not sure if the actual exam caused that. I kept bleeding yesterday and didn't quite fill up one pad throughout the entire day. It was heavier in the morning but tapered off and today I'm not spotting at all. I don't really know if that's considered bleeding or spotting and I'm also not sure if I had blood clots because I'm not sure what those look like. During the exam the doctor said that he couldn't see anything on the ultrasound, but that doesn't tell us anything because it's so early. He also said that my cervix is closed. They drew blood on Monday and again this morning, but I haven't gotten any results back yet. I'm on bedrest in the meantime and I'm absolutely going crazy!!! I want to believe that the fact that my bleeding has stopped is a good sign, but I can't help worrying because my boobs aren't sore anymore and I'm not having to pee as much. Is there any hope?

There is definitely hope if your cervix is closed. You will see on these threads that lots of women have bleeding and go on to have healthy pregnancies, unfortunately that's not the case for all. Listen to your doctor, take it easy over the weekend. Nothing you did caused this and there's nothing you can do to change the outcome other than take care of yourself. The blood test will tell you more - it is still very early to see anything on an ultrasound. Good luck and lots of hugs xx

The doctor just called, he says I have a hemmhoragic ovarian cyst that caused a false positive and I wasn't pregnant. I took 6 positive pregnancy tests, he says they were false positives. I haven't wrapped my brain around any of this yet.

I'm so sorry to hear that

I can only begin to imagine how you must be feeling.

I really hope that the Dr is able to explain to you properly what has gone on, and that you get well soon.

Did he explain why it is causing false positives? I mean it's a cyst, how is that possible to make a pregnancy test positive?

The doctor really didn't explain anything, I'm so frustrated! It was a new doctor, I was planning on switching OBs and had already made an appointment with him when I got my positive pregnancy test. I spoke with the nurse today, not the doctor, and she only called because I was in there this morning to get more bloodwork done and had asked to speak to her, but she was busy so she took my number and called me later. When I asked what I should do next, turns out she had my bloodwork from Monday in front of her and she just told me over the phone that my levels were low. I had to ask her what that meant and if it meant that I was no longer pregnant. She called me back a few minutes later after speaking to the doctor and told me about the cyst. I didn't really ask her any questions because I was just in shock, I'm thinking of a million questions now but he can't see me until Tuesday. I took 5 different tests (3 different brands) and they were all positive. I don't see how that could be a false positive. Everything I've read about those cysts says that they wouldn't cause a false positive. I'm just so hurt and confused.
