Cold sore on the lip during pregnancy?? Is it ok??

Hey ladies! I hope everyone's weekend is off to a good start! Mine sure is! My OH and I got married this afternoon!!(now DH) Woooohooo!!!
Only downer is that as the evening progressed I realized I had a small lump on my lip and my water bottle was bumping it every time I'd drink from it. So I looked in the mirror and sure enough a cold sore is forming! I've put some cold sore medicine on it. I hope that's ok! And has anyone else ever had a cold sore during pregnancy or known someone who has? Is it safe?? :-S I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance.
And still spotting by the way but its very minimal and definitely brown. *sigh* I wish it would go away. I'm honestly a bit afraid to "consummate the marriage" as I'm still spotting and I still haven't gotten the "all clear" from the dr yet so I've already told dh that I'm still a bit afraid to do anything. Luckily he loves me enough that he said to not worry about it and that obviously we've already taken care of that(as he pats and rubs my tummy hehe ) But still we haven't been intimate in a couple weeks now and I'm starting to really miss it. Anyways I've rambled on enough here as it is. Anyways...any thoughts on the cold sore would be great! Thanks girls!! You all are the best!!! Lots of to all!!

First of all congrats on the marriage!! I don't think the cold sore can harm the pregnancy, however you might want to doublecheck that the medication is safe to apply-you know since certain things can go through the skin into the bloodstream, such as acne medication.

Congratulations! Hope you had a wonderful time!

I wouldn't worry about the cold sore too much. I think it is only after the birth that it can cause a problem. It is only passed on through direct contact. It's worth talking to your doctor about it though to check on safe medicines to use.

I got a cold sore when I was about 14 weeks pregnant. I read up about it and there is no evidence to say that using cold sore cream is harmful.

However, I decided that I would avoid using the cream and I used those cold sore patches instead - I can't remember the name of them. They are like little plasters and they sort of contain the cold sore and stop it spreading. They also help speed up recovery.
